What could this be?

Rattling around in my fuel tank:

The noise of metal against metal is from whatever it is inside my tank, not the bench or anything else. I'm at a loss as to what it is. The float mechanism is already out, as shown at the end of the clip.

Any ideas?

I had that. It would surf around and clonk the sides when cornering.

I sourced a replacement tank for £40.00 at the time.

I still have the old tank in the corner of the garage

Could you borrow a borescope and have a look?

Defo a baffle.

Yup, baffles can break away from the tank. We had one cut open and repaired at a local engineering shop.

I assume once cut open, it just needs tack welding back into position..?

Stand back and dont even think about welding fuel tanks !!!!
I would not weld a fuel tank even if its been steam cleaned and elecrically sealed, as fuel vapours are worse for explosions, so get a second hand one, you dont want blowing up !!!

Take it to a specialist to have it welded.

Some people talk about filling it full of diesel fumes or filling/cleaning it with water but I'm not sure I'd risk it
