MC2 gets my vote 
Cheers, they mentioned MC1 but not MC2, is there significant difference? I was interested to hear that 42k milleage is about average for a cam to go. Apparantly it's due to the valve springs being a bit too strong. Don't know much about engines, but I guess that would make sense. Penninsular have quoted just over a grand all in. Ouch! Feeling quite pissed off as only had it a few weeks.

Not sure where you are based but ask around for another quote to back off the price. Perhaps within the TVRCC if anyone local has had it done locally

As I'm not sure how much time it takes but as a layman with a rough understanding of whats involved I would have thoguht it to take around a days labour to do (any others like to add/subtract from that). Parts can't be more than £300. All IMHO etc....... Certainly a year or so ago you would have been looking at nearer £700 all in.

totaly agree.. just had an MC2 in my griff 500, fitted by penninsula.
MC2 full CAM kit from kent/V8 is £500 (including new chain and pully) and the days labour about £450-500..
If you get a modified cam, the ECU will need chipping to match it so budget a Mark Adams Tornedo chip and rolling road session to the cam cost.
Cam's can often get a bit more expensive as the rockers may need replacing as well. The bible has some awful pictures of what can happen. I recoomend going to steel one if they have to be changed.

Yes car is in bits :-( and a very sad empty space on my drive. What's worse is all the neighbours asking 'Where's your lovely new car then?'
The foreman from Penninsula is giving me a ring in the morning to have a chat about possible other cams such as the MC1 and 2 which has been suggested. The guy who I just spoke to said 4-5mm was worn off. What do they make cams from, toffee?

Once the hardened surface comes off a lobe then it isn't too many miles before the lobe will look like a round piece of metal 
.
Only issue with going to a wilder cam, apart from whata Steve mentioned about re-chipping, is do you have pocketed pistons to take the higher lift, probably yes, but you never know.

IIRC you've only had it a few weeks. Where did you get it from.?
If there's no hope of any come back on the vendor, then that 4 or 5mm that's worn off should make it easier to stick it right up their a
e Got it from garage near Warwick, non tvr. Sounded ok there, done 400-500 miles since. Tried to get them to cough up but they wernt interested. They refered to the warranty they gave me, but warranty people replied it only counts for broken parts,not worn parts. So looks like im unfairly stuffed!
Peninsular phoned the trader and put it to him that it had gone pear shaped in three weeks, he said its not up to him and passed peninsular onto the insurance people. How do I find the official info out to put it back in the traders court? Does seem out of order that a trader with a garage can do this. Bought it December 10th but picked it up December 22nd. Was making horrid noises by Jan 12th and in garage by 14th.
