Strange Wear on Camshaft Lobes

Here are a couple of pictures of the wear on my camshaft lobes.

Every lobe has similar wear on them although some are uneven across the lobe.
Has anyone any idea why this has happened?

I had almost exactly the same thing on my cam when it came out a month ago after 43,000 miles. Engine was makinga bit of a rattle at around 2,500 revs under load. It was stamped up as a KC885 DF08 , but im not sure what the DF08 bit means . Ray at V8D was the man who took it out . He wasn't sure exactly what could've caused it. He did say that a retaining plate / bracket was missing and that could possibly have been the reason as maybe it would have given enough room for it to move?? Also my oil gears were totally shot . NOt sure if any of that helps , or is applicable to you though. I'm sure there will be someone who really knows what they're talking about come along soon and point you in better directions.

How do you expect the cam follower to rotate if the cam loves are not ground like this?

I haven't seen that many cam shafts but the guy that changed it had never seen anything like it.
I suppose it not the just the lobes it is all the way round but not all the way across.
All the others I have seen even when the lobes were worn down were really shiny all the way round.
These are dull on one side and shiny on the other.

The reason I had it looked at was it sounded like one or more cam followers were noisy on the nearside bank.
The cam followers all looked good but the camshaft was looking a bit worn so I decided to have it changed.
The car has only done 42k and in the receipts I got with the car it show it had a camshaft with all the bits and bobs changed at 22k.
The guy that has just changed it could only suggest that it wasn't bedded in properly but 2 camshaft changes in 42k has me a bit worried.

I would blame that crap 0w40 Mobil 1. Us what V8D recommend, ether Valoline VR1 20w50 or somthing like Mllers 10 or 15w60.

It's running on a mineral oil at the moment and in a couple of weeks it will be on Millers.

Would not hurt using VR1 ,got plenty of zinc.
