Actually we have found our Chimaera pretty good for long journeys. We've never done the Scotland run in it (we live in the South East of England) but we did do Basingstoke-Liverpool.
In High Summer.
With the roof down.
The whole way.
Even on the motorway.

For the past 2.5 years every journey started (and ended) optimistically but today the inevitable happened - throttle cable broke. But at least it happened at a convenient place - not! Outside lane of a dual carriageway as I stuck it in third and gave it some wellie to take a (virtual) gap. Gulp! gingerly used my momentum to creep back into lane 1 and then onto the grass verge. Knew immediately what was wrong so didn't even lift the lid. RAC there in 12 minutes (
) and very nice guy used their universal cable kit to manufacture a temporary fix. He tried to get the pedal out but admitted defeat before the contortions left him with a permanent disability and politely suggested that if I sat in the drivers seat he would pop-rivet the loose end to my shoe which would at least get me home. Which is where I was one hour after the cable broke. Absolutely A1 service from RAC - well done!
I think one small indiscretion in my TVR's reliability will not detract from continuing optimism. As to long journey comfort I've done several two-tanksful journeys without a break other than for optimax and found no discomfort at all. I think the passenger gets the rough end of the space deal though and wouldn't want to be on that side for more than a hour.
