Anyone with their insurance renewel on the horizon should definitely give Classic Line a try.

Called them today and was quoted £292 including legal cover, UK & Euro breakdown cover and my mate added as a named driver.

Not bad for a 45 year old, especially as I live inside the M25.

Add just £20 for agreed value its well worth calling Classic Line if you're up for renewal.

Hope this helps someone?

Mine runs out on Sunday, was just getting together all of the random bits of paper so that I can start calling around tomorrow so I can add them to the list, was also going to try Mannings. thumbup

Take it that was as a classic policy and not using your no claims?

I use the same company ,£250 which includes track days . Its still expensive when you can insure a 30k Porsche 993for £180

Yes, a classic policy. The big one for me is the Euro breakdown cover, many don't even offer this if the car is 17 years or older. If you can get Euro breakdown cover its normally around £70 a year so getting it for free is a very good deal.

The policy and breakdown cover both look sound and the £20 for agreed value seems like a no brainer.

Oh, and my LPG conversion with Canems dual fuel ECU was accepted immediately with no question or loading of the premium.

Didn't work for me but that's always the way with insurance, different people can have varying experiences of the same broker. Classic Line quoted £650 for Kate with the supercharger and all else declared, Adrian Flux charged £360 for a like-for-like policy.

Henderson Taylor for me every time. You speak to the same chap (Matthew) every year and they haven't taken the pi$$ out of me for having the blower. Direct line really got under my skin when I fitted it. I'd been with them for 8 years, never any claims, told them I'd fitted the blower and they said "computer says no", they are just daft they clearly don't like easy proven profitable business / cash cows….

Hi. I tried Classic Line, they had I thought a good price. Then I tried RH insurance and they quoted me £192 (fully comp) with full Euro cover + recovery and upto 90days (AT A TIME).
So you can go over more times in a year and not have any problem smile
They also added my dad and wife with out any extra costs. I'm 47.

Who else did you try?

I've been with Privilege for years, can't be arsed looking about if it 'feels' right.

£200 here, 39, Redhill area full windscreen, legal, euro, 8k (saved a bit as I don't need recovery (bank account does that) or replacement car (other car does that))

I'd love to see a table of which underwriters cover which brands - there are not that many underwriters...

Good idea re the table of underwriters, like you say there are only a few underwriters out there that cover these cars.

Its often overlooked that the broker is effectively just a sales agent for the underwriter who is the party that actually takes on the risk and you'll be dealing with in the event of a claim.

For example I'm about to switch from a policy underwritten by KMG bought through the broker MSM, to a policy underwritten by Equity Red Star purchased through the broker Classic Line.

MSM do actually offer policies underwritten by Equity Red Star but only for motorcycles for some reason confused

All brokers will have slightly different arrangements with their pool of underwriters, and these arrangements can vary between brokers selling exactly the same policy issued by exactly the same underwriter rolleyes

Each broker will strike better or worse deals and negotiate different packages for their customers with the same underwriters, they may also expect to make higher or lower margins than their competitors.

So in truth you are still left shopping around for the best deal.

My process yesterday went something like this:

  • Renewal arrives from MSM: irked
  • Call MSM to see if they can do better: phone
  • Told to go get some other quotes & come back to them: mad
  • Call a bunch of other brokers: phonemadphoneirkedreaditwoohoo
  • Call MSM to see if they can price match Classic Line: phone
  • MSM say: nono
  • I say: byebye
  • Call Classic Line to say: thumbup
  • sleep
Sadly the moral of the story is "loyalty doesn't pay".

My advise is don't get complaisant and let your renewal roll over, get on the blower phone

Try these....

  • MSM (Dawn): 01279 870535
  • Classic Line (George): 01455 639 000
  • RH insurance (Tracy): 01277 206911
  • Mannings (Michael Briggs): 01491 578759
  • Henderson Taylor (Matthew): 0800 917 2007
Happy saving chaps, but do check what you're buying before committing, the policy is only as good as when you come to claim on it and it's not at that point you want to find out you've bought a poor insurance product.

Caveat Emptor and all that wink

Do any of these insurance companies cover the Millbrook driving experience.
My insurance is up for renewal late June so have the option to move away from Manning’s as they don't cover it.

Best you get on the blower and talk to them direct phone

There are so many variables in each individual's requirements you've really got to do the leg work yourself to find out whats the best package for you.

For example I have no need for track day insurance, but I do need Euro breakdown cover. Others may need track day cover but wouldn't dream of crossing the channel in their TVR.

I made up a simple comparison table with all the elements that mattered to me in it, I then did the ring around completing the cells as I went.

Once I'd called the usual suspects and completed spreadsheet it made the comparison and selection process very easy indeed.

Mine looked like this, but you may want to add other fields that are important to you like track day cover ect.

Just tried classic line, take it you're on a limited mileage policy because they quoted me £703 for 10k miles, she said they only really do stuff around 5k miles as a second car silly

Mannings £1049 rofl

Meerkats do me for £400, think that the moral of the story is that you only get really cheap insurance if you hardly ever drive the car biggrin

The big problem with classic line is they don`t work pro rate so if you decide to lock it up in your garage at the end of summer you won`t be getting a penny back .

When I was with R&H they gave me a cheque back which often worked out around half your money back .

The problem with R&H they did not offer track day cover .

Classicline here also,

Unlimited track days(The ring and Spa except) Breakdown cover including Europe £250 excess, £75 windscreen,7,500 limited mileage with an agreed valuation of £12,000 no convictions living in a cat B risk area.
Price £296.87

7,500 mileage was the most they would even quote me. I'm just hoping for once that renewal time with CL in a few months doesn't end up like all my other past insurance policies and decide to put the price up £150 when there has been no changes to my policy.

Good timing as mine is due 13th May. So called the numbers above and so far got two quotes.
Classicline (ERS) with a quote of £443 (declaring the turbo of course).
Henderson Taylor (ERS) ...£494 - includes Millbrook cover (which I wont need)

Waiting on MSM and can't get through to RH for now.

They told me today I could do ether 5 or 7 track days ,can`t remember exactly, after that you would have to pay .

For an agreed valuation that`s costs another £20 every two years ,photos required .

Its when you renew your policy that the changes kick in, existing policy's are not affected
