Rear brake upgrade

Just a thought at the moment, thinking of a rear brake upgrade



I have seen this too anyone tried it ?

What do you have on the fronts, and what do you do with the car? Road, or road and track?

IMHO that may be overkill for road use.
Even on track I seem to have nicely balanced brakes.

I am using 324mm Focus RS ventilated grooved Black Diamond disks, 4 pot callipers and Hawk racing pads on the front.
And standard sized disks and the standard TVR callipers on the rear.
The only upgrades I have made to the rear brakes are to go to Black Diamond grooved disks and Ferodo DS2500 pads.
And I only did that because my standard disks and pads needed replacing and I couldn't resist tweaking.

You are welcome to come and try mine one sunny weekend. I am about 120 miles north of you, but it seems to have stopped snowing now.....

Just fitted a hi spec rear upgrade, bigger discs and using hi spec rear calipers, fitting the kit was a right pain, if you have 400 hub carriers you should be ok if you have 500 hubs forget it ,, cost of the kit was about 900 . My reason for fitting is I have the six pots fronts and wanted a set on the back to match

I have a 4 pot WMS kit up front with 300mm vented discs & Hi Spec 2 pot rear (with SVA handbrake) also with the same 300mm vented discs and I agree with Hoofa regarding the fitting of the Hi Spec rears. I find the balance between the 4 pot front & 2 pot rear works well for me.

I run TVR (tuscan) 4 pots on the front, a Hans kit, I have found on hard braking the balance is not great and the four pots on the rear would level things up a bit OR get a valve to move the basis from front to rear ?

Mark, maybe the efficiency of the WMS caliper and Tuscan caliper are different which may explain a different balance. I'm sure you've taken account of a handbrake fitment, the Willwood kit in your picture doesn't seem to have one.

Will the handbrake pass the MOT ? Ive heard they are useless . Does it have an extra pad for the hand brake ?

Well yes it will pass the mot but since it's a racing caliper it's more a spot brake than a handbrake. Yes it has extra pads for the handbrake. I don't tend to use the handbrake, just leave the car in gear.

Aha, looks good as long as you have the necessary clearance between caliper and wheel rim for the handbrake cable.

PB brakes have also build in/on handbrake things, see, or is that just an extra caliper?>

The wilwood calipers are about £330 disc from hi-spec should not be expensive ?
And two alloy bells to be turned should not be too bad I have had a rough quote
then just to brackets but i dont have the car at the mo so its on hold !
