Blipper trouble

The button on my 'blipper' to unlock the doors/deactivate the alarm etc has just cracked almost in half (just hanging on at one edge) so I decided I'd better use the spare .... only to find out that for whatever reason it doesn't work!
I'm really concerned that the crack in the botton will finish its journey, split the thing in two and render the blipper inoperative (leaving me either locked out or unable to lock the car).
What would be the instant recommended steps?
What is likely to be wrong with the spare? Could it just need a battery and is this easy to sort out?

Just swap the batteries over and give the spare a try. In any case if the cracked button on the blipper does fall off all you have to do is press the button on the circuit board so don't panic.
Many thanks for the reassurance about what happens if the button falls off - I was, obviously, worried!
Any hints on how to swap batteries? How do the bippers open and what do the batteries look like? Is this easy?

Just prise open the blipper along the seam and carefully open the case taking care not to let the circuit board fall out. The battery is similar to a standard watch battery I think. Note where the circuit board sits in the casing before removing it as you will have to put it back in exactly the right location.

I think I have a spare Meta alarm blipper as the car has had an alternative alarm fitted and I found this in the recess in the drivers door where the lighter is.
It does not have Meta written on it but it is a black box about 2"x1" with 1 long and 2 short rubber buttons on the front and the code M100RC on the back.
If this sounds the same as yours, e-mail me your address I will send it to you on Monday. You can then just transfer all your blippers internals into this one.

Or you could just swap the guts from one case to the other
