I have been seeing a lot of smoke in the mirrors when coming off the power at the top end on the drag strip.
At first i thought it was tyre smoke from the drag tyres touching the inner arches as the body lurched forward but it did it while i was on my street tyres also.

After the engine rebuild i went to Dales for a RR set up and he altered my breathing pipes from the oil catch can. Whereas they used to exit the can and enter the plenum at 2 points these are now blocked off. So i dont have the natural vaccuum drawing on the crankcase. Bear in mind the cylinder heads have recently undergone refurbishment and the guides were deemed as fine but new valve seals fitted anyway.

Any ideas as to where it is coming from or maybe what this smoke is?

Saw that as I was behind you on the strip!

Hmm, if there are no breather pipes going into the inlet side then thats ruled out.

If guides are good it can only be rings/bore or thereabouts.

Was it happening on gear changes as well as top end shut down?

No.

Which would point to guides or inhaling oil from somewhere.

Bit of a long shot, but the oil catch tank I was using was expelling oil out of the breather (on top of the catch tank) which was pooling somewhere on the side (passenger) of the block, under heavy acceleration it was getting launched off the block onto the exhaust and creating clouds of nasty smoke, which initially rang alarm bells about rings/guides etc... Don't spose you might have something similar but in reverse Derek? Pooling oil somewhere in the engine bay getting thrown onto the exhaust under heavy deceleration.... doesn't take much to create a huge amount of smoke...

I dont think so. The engine is still spotless and there is no burning smell. I do get fumes from the breather on the catch tank now though. All the time.

I have taken the outlets from the catch tank to the underside of the car.

With engine running and warmed up, unscrew the oil filler cap, lift off then place it back on top. If the cap gets blown off this would suggest ring/bore wear due to excess crankcase pressure.

A clear possible given what you're doing is excess oil ponding in the rocker chests and getting sucked down the guides when you cut the throttle at high rpm (despite the new stem seals) - not uncommon to open up extra drains (including through from the valley to the timing chest) and to put restrictors in the oilways up to the rocker pedestals to limit flow - also make sure the drilling in the mushroom breather is not clogged
