Does anything hold the top of the dash instrument board in place ? i can push the top part forward just under the dash lid .

There are some blocks of wood IIRC, that are bonded to the inside of the dashtop, the dash panel fits between them and the edge of the dashtop, sounds like the blocks on yours have come away, but an easy fix

Yeah, just some off cuts from a packing crate glued to the underside of the dash.|
They're glued to the dash covering so they simply come off
