Adhesive Remover - Any ideas ?

Hi All,

I've got a couple of chrome flags stuck on either side of the car below the indicators. Not to my taste and want to remove but they are stuck on with an adhesive tape and seem to be stuck firm. Does anyone know of any adhesive removal spray or liquid that I could drip feed onto / around the edge of the backing tape in the hope that it will destroy the adhesive

Try heating them with a hair dryer.
It's how we get the stickers off which we put on for Le Mans etc.
Failing that, soak them in WD40

You'll probably find that if sticky tape has been employed, that ordinary petrol or lighter fuel will soften the tape sufficiently to allow removal, both will remove any wax finish BTW.

As above, use the hairdryer to soften the glue then peel it off. residual glue can either be heated and gently scraped off with a soft plastic tool (windscreen scraper with a suitable edge) or use carb cleaner which will eventually remove it.

Tar and glue remover will do the job too.

I find white spirit works well too. Failing that, nail varnish remover . Careful here though, it won't be a problem on paint that has the proper finish on it but it will fetch off brushed on touch up paint.

I have discovered that hot brake fluid works a treat at dissolving unwanted paint.......

But I agree about the hairdryer, and will be trying it tomorrow on my daily driver Saab, which has had an unwanted, and non-Saab, "Sport" badge stuck on the back by a previous owner. I will report back on what i have used.

If its physical badges with a foam backing, I use fishing line. Wrap a length around both left and right hands and then saw behind the badge.

Clean the remaining debris attached to the car with brake cleaner. Simples.

Once you have the actual badge off, try 3M adhesive remover.. It's not as aggressive as nail varnish remover (acetone) and actually does a better job. Should work a treat with a rag of some sort. Only thing is it is a tad pricey vs aceton.

Once you have the badge off, you can use one of these to get rid of the sticky residue

I removed the number badge off my BMW with a hair dryer and dental floss. Just heat your flags for a few minutes until you can feel they've become a little flexible and then use the dental floss like a saw to slowly work between the car and the flags. Once you've removed them just use a little petrol to clean up any sticky residue (and of course clean off all traces of petrol after).

I went and bought a £5 hairdryer from Argos ( i did not know you could get them so cheap) as the wife told me to Foxtrot Oscar when I asked to use hers

Applied heat to make backing tape flexible and then removed and dealt with residue through use of white spirit and rag.
