I bought these a while ago, not fitted them yet because of work and the need to finish off my 5 year lathe restoration project.

Anyway, the issue is that these lights have a fog and a reverse on both sides and the chimaera wiring only has 1 fog light on the offside and one reverse light on the nearside.

The other issue is that the mating 5 pin junior power timer connector moulded on the lighting module that holds the lamps cannot be bought as a separate connector. So the supplier has provided some rather bulky and ugly alternatives which I wont be using.

So the options are:

1) Convert the lights to give me 2 fog lights on the offside and 2 reverse lights on the near side so as not to mess around with the wiring layout in the car very much.

2) Replace the reverse light on the offside with a reflector and the fog light on the nearside with a reflector to have just one fog and reverse light on the same sides as normal.

3) Find a route through around the carpet covering the number plate area to take a feed from the reversing light to the offside and a feed from the fog light to the nearside.

Looks like whatever I do I will be removing the 5 pin plug.

Any other thoughts suggestions?

Got to be the right thing to do.

I have those and just spliced the fog/reverse power cables and ran it both sides under the carpet. Works well.

I didn't think you'd be able to do nothing and just leave it as 1 reversing light and 1 fog light. I though the UK required if you had the lights installed they had to be working.

No, you only need one of each by law. When I got a very old Peugeot 406 through the MoT in Jan, I noticed the n/s rear fog light didn't work. On inspection, I found no bulb fitted. I put one in and it didn't work. So the cluster has the lens and the bulb holder but it wasn't wired to work! You only need the o/s one (or centre if fitted)

Passed the MoT too, just.

Reverse lights are not part of a UK MOT, so whether the lamps are there or not it don't matter.wavey

Thanks for the responses guys, I have used a steel wire to find a route behind the carpet to provide the feeds. Hoping to get the lights fitted over the weekend. Looks like the light fittings are stuck in place with silicone sealant and screws? Is that correct?

I have bought some 6 way connectors and will use these from Vehicle Wiring Products along with the correct colour wires to take the feeds across.

Mine had 3 screws per side and the rubber sealant. Just checked my comments from the time I did mine as my memory is quite sh!te, and this is what I'd wrote.

"Because of the different materials they can not be fixed in place in the same way. The originals use some self taping screws going into them. To fix the new units is much better to use some nuts and bolts. I also found a bit of a gap on the edges so used a rubber strip glued to the edges of the fiberglass surround to make a good seal. So a little more than a straight swap but nothing major."

A note that both my original units were cracked and I think had received a small impact at some time - and at least one other when a garage that did some work on it previously for me, dropped it off the flatbed frown Also my carpet in the back had come loose and so easy to do the wires and then refitted the carpet nicely afterwards.
