Just had to bolt the hubs, spacers and discs together - if for no other reason that to check the calipers fitted and didn't snag the wheels.

Can't wait to get them on the car now...

Anyone want a pair of part worn Toyo Proxies T1's - 225 55 16? They're coming off those rims on Tuesday and being replaced with 205/50/16's to go on the front of a non-PAS car. One has loads of tread left, the other is a couple of mm from the wear indicator.

Only thing I'm a bit worried about is whether the standard master cylinder will displace enough fluid to drive the four-pots...

Phil

It will just be a a bit more progressive.

I take it that's the hub and stub combo i linked that worked?

  • chuckle* That's what I'm hoping - however I do seem to remember thinking that the current setup sometimes felt as though the pedal was reaching the end stop so *MAYBE* I need to look at the master cylinder seals.

Yup ... I have a feeling I might be able to go a bit less thickness on the wheel spacer but I went and grabbed some 12m nuts and bolts from Screwfix just to bolt them all up to check caliper / wheel clearances (OK - I wanted to see what they looked like) so the caliper wasn't necessarily exactly where it will be when bolted to the hub.

(Can anyone make use of 50 off 65mm x M12 bolts, 100 off M12 nuts and 100 off M12 washers? That was the smallest quantity that Screwfix did! biggrin )

You might well get away with a spacer of less than 12mm, but I wanted hubcentrics to ensure no vibrations.

Ive run this set up for 2 years and 6k miles

Phil,

Where did you get the caliper adapters from? The chap off eBay?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321062011167?_trksid=p20...

It says in the advert that they need drilling differently for the 2 wheel drive non Cosworth Sierras?

And which MK1 Focus RS 324mm discs did you go for? There is a lot of choice on Ebay.

Are these the correct pads?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141430207607?_trksid=p20...

I have got a set of these calipers to go on too. Do the standard flexible brake hoses fit, M10x1 thread???

Cheers

Yup ... those are the puppies.

I *BELIEVE* it's just the diameter of the holes that differs - not the spacing - however as my hubs have already been drilled to take the mounting bolts for the 888/887 calipers then I think they'll be fine.

I buy small quantities of nuts and bolts on ebay these days. I bought 10 x M6 bolts for £1.10. Also, 10 x M6 wingnuts for the door panels for 99p, including postage!

M12 is much bigger though, and 50 would cost £30 plus! Sell them on ebay yourself but keep a few just in case.

It may have been cheaper but then, you'd have to wait for them and I know the feeling when it has to be done NOW.

Those parts are quite a lot cheaper than the ones I found. Has anyone else used these? How do the Pagid pads compare to the Red Stuff in terms of performance and brake dust production? I've just fitted a tasty set of diamond cut RS7s, don't want them pitted and ruined by brake dust…..lol Ironically I have a set of hardly used Pagid pad I could use if I wanted to be a skinflint…..

Looing good Phil smile As said before change the brake fluid and test. I was told mine had just had its fluid changed when we bought it (the only thing that had been done to it) and with a few months I had to pump the pedal to get any brake at all, I thought air to start with and tried a bleed, no air but extremely filthy brake fluid!!, Changed the fluid and the brakes worked as they were designed to. It wouldn't surprise me if someone had topped the reservoir up with water at some point.
I can see 888/887 calipers going on mine soon then wink How is the engine build going and when will the old girl be up and roaring?

Engine build is going 'well' in so far as there's not been too many issues ... The clutch I had a feeling would need doing, the heads needing extensive reworking was an unplanned expense, as was the cam but given how much the cam costs to do on its own then it would have been daft not to do it for £200 while teh engine is in bits.

Problem is that I'm doing it on a tight budget so it's a case of trying to be sensible about what *NEEDS* to be done and what would be *NICE* to be done but ultimately I'm ending up with a new gearbox, a new clutch and the only bits of 'old' engine being carried over are the sump, the pushrods and the rockers / rocker posts / rocker shafts - other than that she'll be all new! scratchchin

To be honest the only other thing I could replace would be the rockers and I can do those easily at a later date if need be ...

... have to say that I have been back on John Eales website looking at his rather tasty inlet manifold. biggrin
