How hard would it be to install a start button ?

When I was a small boy my dad owned an S type Jaguar, I always remember the start button, I was about 4 years of age and still think my dad was the coolest guy in the world because of that start button !!
I'd love a similar button fixed into my Dash, for no other reason other than to remember my long lost father, it's still as clear as day in my mind, I was the youngest of 5 kids so being the very early 70's my dad built me a seat on top of the centre consol,,,, so from as young as I could remember I sat up front, could see the road clearly, and I can remember the key gong in the centre of the dash (another cool thing) then my dad pressing this magic button which fired that glorious engine into life, it's what had me transfixed about cars as a boy,
Nothing flash, just a black button, can it be done easily enough with the Chimaera wiring etc. has anyone done it and has a wiring diagram. Cheers Alun

How hard? guess that depends how competent you are with electrics 
Fitted one of these in my Taimar. Comes with instructions, piece of cake
Something like this if you want to keep it simple?
Pull the white /red solenoid feed off the back of the ignition switch and connect to one terminal on push switch. Run an extra new wire from the terminal on ignition switch with white wire on it (live with ign. on) to the other side of push switch
Fitted one of these in my Taimar. Comes with instructions, piece of cake

Ignition switches these days are really combined ignition/start switches with a spring return from the start position to the ignition position.
Basically all the start button does is provide a different way to close the third set of contacts and the opportunity to put another toy on the dash.
I like toys.
I have dim memories of Bristol Cars claiming to have invented the combined ignition and starter switch which replaced the separate ignition switch and start button. By combining the two fewer actions were required to start the engine!
- Insert your key and turn the key (ancillaries on) - one set of contact close.
- Turn to turn on the ignition (ignition on) - a second set of contacts close.
- Turn the key again to engage the starter motor (start engine) - a third set of contacts close.
- Release the key when the engine is started - the key returns to the ignition position and the third set of contacts open.
Basically all the start button does is provide a different way to close the third set of contacts and the opportunity to put another toy on the dash.

t so I sorted that as wellA real cool starter button would have an interlock to prevent the solenoid firing when the engine is running and, like modern diesels, the logic to turn, fire and release all from a single momentary press...
Needless to say, mine doesn't manage this but it does extinguish its illumination when the engine catches (I just tapped into the oil light circuit)

Personally, I thought about it too... but now I don't mind anymore - my others cars start with a button - all cars start with a button. Keys are now "classic"
Still hate the immobiliser though and the alarm.

Pupp,, awesome dash, I don't want any writing just a plain button, subtle and unless you know you wouldn't have a clue what it does. I might get onto Jag heretage or so,, see what original stuff they offer,,, it's how the button presses that seems to be the thing I like,, it's probably mad but those old Jag toggles and buttons, they make you feel good when you operate them,, I'd like to feel that when firing the Tvr up, some sort of physcological issue I must have?
This is so easy to do it's going to be one of them jobs I really enjoy.

Haha, reproduced by kind permission of Bob Smith. TVRCC is taking a liberty there. Nice that they reference me but the TVRCC never asked my permission^ very useful info
