Brake callipers

Are the front callipers on all early Chimaeras the same? I have an early 1993 4.0 [although when I put the reg into parts websites it comes up as a 4.3?]
I need to replace the front nearside calliper, & can get a new one at half the cost by buying from a general Brake parts supplier, cf specialist TVR suppliers.

Im guessing they are standard sierra parts if they are the originals, quite easy to match up with some pictures online I should imagine.

How desperate are you? I will be taking mine off later this year, you can fit the larger 260mm calipers / black diamond grooved discs and EBC red stuff pads. I overhauled the calipers a few years ago with new seals etc so they work well.

I was just coming onto PH to ask a very similar question but was looking to buy an overhaul kit if they are available so I'll watch this with interest. Mine is a 1993 430.

If you want an overhaul kit call John at Bigg Red brakes in worcester. He can sell you seals / new pistons etc….

I have a pair of 5L calipers going spare came of the car

Seriously fella's I would take the opportunity to uprate those puny 240mm brakes on those early pre non 5.0 litre 95/96 cars with those offers on here, plenty will tell you the 240mm fronts are adequate that maybe but I would not spend money on the old 1300/1600 Sierra based brakes

I bolted one of Hans's 4 pot conversions straight on with new disks, pads and refurbed calipers and carriers together with a set of steel braided hoses for less than £300. They give me so much more confidence when stepping on the peddle than the originals ever did.

It's as simple as money right now. I've spent £1000's on the car and have run out of the spending stuff.
I already have new discs and pads for the puny ones so unless someone is offering a refurbed set of calipers, new discs and pads for a few hundred then these will do for a few months until the bank looks better.

I'd say that is very achievable for a 500 setup

I have a 278mm set up that I need to check fits. If it does then I'll post up details. Discs, callipers, carriers and pads were £65 off evilbay.

Its on my list of jobs tomorrow. If all goes well then there'll be a 278mm with 887/888 callipers front set up and a 273mm with callipers and carriers rear set up for grabs.

After posting on here & on TVRCC I have had a look & measured the discs etc & they are 240's!! As a recon calliper is £35 I have ordered one to get back on the road. But I am v interested in looking at uprating them over the winter IF a substantial difference can be made. So what is the best set up for reasonable money? Is it just to move to a 260 disc with bigger calliper piston, or is it to move to a specialist set up, presuming they fit with the standard wheels?

Its the casting numbers for the callipers used with the 278/283mm discs.

Regarding my post above I am going to do a separate thread in the S forum as that's the car I'm working on but it should be relevant to the Chim.

I have a set of brembos to go on. PM me with you telephone number and when I do the upgrade after september you can have first refusal. Standard larger calipers, ebc red stuff pads and black diamond rotors. Happy to mark them all up so you can reassemble in the exact same way back on your car. cheers...

I've started this thread regarding an alternative upgrade to the 887/888 callipers. Still from the Ford range and should be a bit more common so better value.
