Evening
Yesterday after a blast down a dual carriageway I had a loud tapping/tappety noise.
all gauges read fine - oil pressure, oil temp, water temp etc. Running was smooth, idled fine as well but it was still there on tick over. Loud enough to worry me and hear it over the exhaust. Once it had cooled down and I drove again later in the day it was fine??
Any ideas what this might be?

I had a similar thing previously once where the oil pressure relief valve stuck, but that caused a drop in oil pressure and the warning light to come on. Since i've changed the oil pump there haven't been any issues.

Any ideas what I could do to diagnose this or what might be causing it?

Exhaust blowing at the manifolds?
I would think this would get worse as the heat expands clearances.

This would be my shout too from the description, exactly the same happened to me.

It needs sorting fairly quickly as you don't want to burn the mating faces of the manifold and head, cheap for the gaskets but a PITA to fit!

doesn't seem to be as there isn't any soot on the paint or anywhere around there.
checked the bolts week before last as well and they are all tight (new gaskets last year)

Sorry Brett, it would be best to check for the most obvious cause before you start wasting your time and money changing stuff.

Tape a small feather to the end of a stick, start the engine, and hold the feather close to the exhaust gaskets. Feather flutters about, you have found one of the leaks. Do remember there may be more than one leak.

huh...so the nord locks are not much help?
when you look at the video and graphics they look superb...

so they are not that 'good' for exhaust things? maybe you used the normal zinc ones? they are up to 200 degrees,
the RVS ones are up to 500.

but if such are not that good I do not order some in future :-)

then what is best for exhaust headers, copper?

like say those type ala BMW without extra rings.
