Exhaust Question?

Can anyone tell me if a sports exhaust for a 2001 4.5lt Chim will fit a 1994 4.3lt Chim? Will there be any differences? I crave more noise as the exhaust mod is not enough!

Don't know about the sports exhaust, but what about taking the pre-cats out? Louder and deeper sound.

I recently fitted a modified system from a later car to my 1994 500, the only difference was the rear mounting bracket had to be altered slightly, but that was worth doing for the new noise , and i`ve still got the original with silencers to put on for track days.

So how do you remove pre cats then? & won't this affect the emissions for the MOT? Like the sound of it though I want to scare small children with the pops & bangs from the exhaust & i'm not quite there yet.

Taking pre-cats out wont effect the MOT, not sure the average bloke could do it though. Peninsula are taking mine out now. Am told by chap there it will give a deeper/louder sound to the exhaust note and add 15-20 bhp (from 5L). Also having the main box cut open and s/s pipes through. Taking the main cat out would make passing an MOT very difficult, although there are ways around it such as tuning it to pass (runs like a fiesta) and then tunning it back after the MOT paper issued.

Just to confirm, the exhaust pattern for Chimaera didn't change, it will fit all model years, but be aware that the Griffith exhaust is different to the Chimaera it sweeps up more at the back, its correct that the rear bracket might be slightly different from early cars to late but not difficult to modify.

Taking the pre cats out/main cats/sleeving the exhaust does nothing to the power. You won't get a 15-20 bhp increase unless the cats are blocked already is rarely the case. All that happens is here is getting back power that went with the blocked cats not getting an increment.

It will change the noise, may well change the response and feel but that is it.

I've just had the exhaust and manifolds off mine over the last few days, and was toying with the idea of taking out the pre-cats just to deepen the noise.

Problem is that they look in perfect condition, and a complete swine to remove.

I assume the only way to remove them is to smash them up and scrape all the debris out, and i also thought you had to put back in some 'cones' or something to replace the back-presure, is that true?

My chim 450 has no pre cats and sports free flow main cat. I havn't installed the cones and the car runs and sounds great even with an unmodified silencer.
