Engine wiring loom

Due to the car having being in bits for the chassis restoration the engine wiring loom is starting to unravel.
Having a good look at it, is there a good reason why the wires from the ignition amplifiers go all the way round oil filler and then back across the engine?
Im thinking of shortening the route.

Because on the original source of the loom (Land Rover Discovery) they re-located the ignition amp & Coil to the radiator area (at same time they changed from amp on dizzy to remote amp by coil IIRC).Having a good look at it, is there a good reason why the wires from the ignition amplifiers go all the way round oil filler and then back across the engine?
