Wipers not turning off

Driving home from work last night i could not turn the wipers off, intermittant does not work either just keeps running on speed 1 when you switch to it. Turn off fine with ignition off.
The speeds work ok when switching through them so im guessing the switch needs a clean out or has failed.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Could be a problem with the contacts on the wiper motor that parks the blades back to the start position when you turn the wipers off. If there is a short I reckon it would do what you describe.
