Rusty Seats and Runners

Hi

Just pulled out the seats on the chimp only to find the runners had rusted to virtually nothing and the seat tilt mechanism needs a good clean up too. The covers are being reupholstered, while the frame is bare, what is the best way to refurb the tilt mechanism? Also will standard bucked seat runners such as these on ebay fit?

Yes and no.

Yes I have, and no they won't fit.
You need runners where the two runners are not joined together by the adjuster handle, but instead have an adjuster on one of the runners only and......
You then need to make sure that the runners you order are exactly the same length as the Chimaera ones, as the fixing points on the seat base are in fixed positions, and you cannot adjust them. I was fitting different seats, and had to re-use the Chimaera runners because the sets I had bought were all useless.

I can let you have some too short separate runners if you want some, and some like your advert too.
Been there, done that, got the useless spare parts.

I should have qualified my answer.

IF the runners you referred to in the advert are exactly the same length and separation as the Chimaera ones, then they could work. But they have to be exactly the same both ways, as the slider bar fixes the runner separation.

If they are the correct fixing length way, you could always chop the adjuster handle in half and then add metal to it or take metal off to get the correct width fitting.

Purely out of curiosity here, in case the Chim seat runners are different to the Griff.
Mine were bolted to the floor at the back using bolts through the very rear of the runners. At the front they were bolted to spacers to lift the front of the seat up to get it over the step in the floor where the centre outrigger tube runs.
So in theory as long as you got runners which bolted at the very front and rear and were long enough to clear the outrigger bulge in the floor couldn't you bolt the rears in and just use spacers for the front to get to the bolt holes?

These are the spacers which were on my car. You can see how these spacers could be make pretty much any runners fit to the bolt holes - within reason obviously.
