So they have the same outside diameter inlet as the standard plenums? (So you can use the existing hoses from the air filter.)

What diameter is the standard plenum throttle body?

My 5ltr makes 296bhp on a standard 65mm plenum.

I`d also like to know how much extra bhp a 72mm one will make.

th 72 should allow a little more everywhere although I suspect that top end won't be strangled.

Not sure about Peter but i am.

Just wondering what I need to do for the induction side of things - I cant really say I've had my 4.0 rebuilt as a 5.0 any more because all that's left from the 4.0 is the rocker shafts and pushrods ... thing is the induction side will still be (I guess) the 38mm trumpets and manifold so I presume I will have to replace those with a 45mm base, trumpets and manifold to stop the 5.0 being strangled under load.

I see I can get the base, trumpets and manifold from V8D - and a 72mm plenum - for £600 (strange how suddenly £600 seems a relative 'bargain') but that blended base was pointed out too ... I *THOUGHT* that the idea of the trumpets was to even out the differences in length of the inlet tracts but obviously blended bases can't do that ...

Phil, I had the same issue going from 4.3 to 5.0.

I opened out my own manifold to 45mm. and then the simplest solution was to go for one of Jools 45mm blended bases. He has done his own tests with it with no loss of low down torque and a clear 10bhp gain at the top end. It runs great.








I will prob go to a 72mm plenum when i go to big valves.

I've just ended up going for a big valve head...

So do you have any issues with the thick base and clearance for the plenum under the bonnet? Does it affect anything like fuel rail / injector mountings?

I got 330bhp from a V8D plenum
