Door openning and alarm issues

Hi,
i have been looking through lots of threads regardng the issues that I have with my 1997 Chimaera and I have come to the conclusion that they could all be related. my issues are
1) interior light does not work at all
2) hazard lights do not work
3) Alarm / remote locking does not work
4) passanger door does not open from the switch in the mirror.

I have only owned this car for a few days and at first thought that maybe the problems where seperate, but reading some of the threads my view on this has changed.

Other than these issues the car is great, but where should I start to solve what could be a common cause of all the issues, any advice would be very welcome.

Most electrical problems the 1st thing to check for is corroded/poor connections and dodgy earths.

Interior light issues are usually either the door sill switches or the big yellow delay relay in the fuse box, take the sill switches out and give them a good clean up. I assume you have checked the bulb 1st of all?

Central locking issues usually comes down to either the solenoid in the door or the big grey relay top left under the dash top.

The button under the mirror may be the door opening issue and it's worth checking the wiring connections at the switch and the loom in the door, mirror glasss can be removed by tilting glass upwards and sliding lever hidden at the bottom.

To check the loom in the door remove the speaker and this should provide enough access.

Alarm fob may need pairing to the system, disconnect battery then reconnect battery and immediately press the alarm fob this should sync up the fob/alarm.

Do the indicators work all round?

Hi, checked the bulb for the interior lights which was fine, and all the direction indicators work as they should, surprised that the interior light does not work in any of the 3 light positions, I am going to start with the fuse and then the door switches.

From memory the interior light is wired switched earth, so may also be worth checking where this joins the loom behind the passenger seat where the solenoids are.

Hi, found the probelm with the interior light, when the roof was recovered the monkey who did it cut the wires by the hinge. still left with the other issues though !.

1, 3 and 4 could be related to the door switch. Tape each one down manually and try the sequence again. They are a standard item and need regularly replacing as the contacts aren't great and corrode up.
Hazards? Could just be a fuse and unrelated. If either one works but not the other could be the diode in the loom - I had this but cost me £300 in labour to find it and 20p for the diode (well it was a £1 as the min order was £1) as it wasn't where it should have been. May be the switch - can you take the dash off and check the connections?

Update on items found and resolved.
1) door switch in mirror found to have come disconnected, both doors now openning correctly
2) wiring for interior light found to be disconnected, connections remade and light now works from the lights own switch but not when openning doors, checked door switches which are both good.
3) hazards still not working
4) alarm and remote locking still not working.

Next step is to check fuses and relays behind battery.
If anyone can give some clues in this area that would be great.

Hazards could be the ribbon cable to the switch, it may have come off depending on the routing around/under the radio, it is also possible to put the ribbon cable on both ways so it may have been put on the wrong way round.

The relays for the hazards/indicators & central locking are under the dash top (passenger side) not in the fuse box.

I have checked the fuses and all seems ok
I think the next step will be to invest in a new interior light relay.
I will also check the hazard switch as you suggest.

You were correct with the hazard switch it was simply disconnected.

Hi Shaun sorry to hijack but can you tell me how many electrical feeds run into the back of your hazard switch

Mine not working either - three feeds into mine but four outlets so I am wondering if one is missing

Yours sounds like the old style hazard switch, the newer style has a ribbon cable instead, these diagrams should help

Hi, Not sure if yours is the same switch, mine is the steel one that comes in the later Chimaera and has a ribbon type connector with about 5 contacts.
