Had this on my 4.5, gauge dropping on hard acceleration bit unnerving!!! changed sensor still the same so dropped sump to check mesh pickup bit of crud but not bad, reassembled, problem still there so tried a mechanical clock and it was fine, on the electric gauge over 4500rpm it dropped like a stone still have not resolved it, now a friend with a 4.5 has exactly the same issue he to has used a mechanical clock and found no issues any answers would be good!!!

The pressure gauge dropping to zero is fairly typical of a failing sender. The oil light is a completely independent switch, which is nice because it gives you redundancy. If the light isn't coming on then it's most likely to be a failing gauge sender.
The sender is easy to change. Just unscrew it, bung a rag into the hole to stop oil oozing out (it won't come gushing out), remove the thread adapter from the old sender and transfer it to the new one, screw the new one in and connect it up. If you've gone for one of the cheap ebay senders it might have a separate earth, which you can wire to the earth point behind the front right wheel.
