Temperature guage reading low

I know the old TVR temp gauge is not the most reliable instrument but we as owners get used to knowing where normal is, be it 80oC or 90oC. I have had a new rad, temp sender, otter switch, thermostat and system flushed over the last year and the normal readings would be 80oC on the move pushing up towards 90oC in traffic on a warm day. It has worked fine for around 6 months giving the above readings.
The gauge now effectively reads approx. 25oC lower than normal? ie, 55oC when warmed up and around 60oC when in traffic. On a cool day it hardly registers at all.
Anyone else had this and could it be the actual gauge on it's way out??

it could be as simple a corroded connector. I think that increased resistance on the wire will cause a lower reading on the dash.

If not the above I would suspect the sender generally when they fail they read low

Thanks for the suggestions. I might as well exhaust the cheap fixes to start with.

Still struggling with this one chaps. Cleaned all the sender connections up no signs of rust/crud.
I will probably just buy a new temp sender (as they are so cheap) even though the current one is only a year old. Is the temp gauge in the dash wired directly to the sender unit or does it come via the ECU?
If it is direct then it can only be a duff sender or a knackered gauge that needs repairing.
