gearbox and diff oil
Discussion
Ive always used this in my GKN

Mine has been fine for years with plenty of abuse, although it's starting to grumble a bit these days.
Whatever you do use check it is suitable for LSD's.
I also used a synthetic ATF for the T5 but that's probably a bit unnecessary.

Not sure if all the GKN diffs are the same but mine is a " helical torque biasing " type so no plates as such. After a year or so of ownership I changed the diff oil to a Fuchs LSD type oil and not long after my side seals started leaking. When I removed them I found they had a metal outer with a bonded rubber lip and the rubber lip had just let go of the steel on both seals?
I contacted GKN and they had this to say...
( I didn't mention the seal failure I just asked why HD90 a non LSD oil was recommended)
I now just run a standard non LSD oil as recommended on the lube plate and it's been fine.
Obviously some are having no issues with LSD oils and my seal failure may have just been a coincidence they were 20 years old after all and I have since had to do the pinion seal which didn't fail in the same way, it just leaked at the lip like they usually do. Don't mean to ad confusion just passing on my experiences. Food for thought and all that

Here's what I use...
Diff (It really doesn't matter if the diff is GKN or BTR):
http://www.classic-oils.net/CRX-75w140-NT
T5 Gearbox (This is a subject of much debate, but you certainly can't wrong with good old ATF)
http://www.classic-oils.net/Morris-Super-ATF
Don't use a fully synthetic ATF though, it's too slippery for the sychros to bite on fast shifts.
Saying that controversially I've been running Penrite SIN manual transmission fluid in my T5 which has worked out really well, being a little more viscous than ATF it solved the problem of being able beat the synchro on 5th when changing quickly to that gear and overall the shift quality was improved (hot & cold).

This oil contains no sulfur so is completely safe where brass is present, it also seems to be compatible with paper lined syncho rings as used in the World Class T5. Finally (but importantly in this case) it's also light enough to effectively lubricate the needle roller bearings in the WC.

What did you fellons think about it? It seems that very few of you have tested some regular 75w90 manual transmission on their diff??i have 3liter of manual transmission left from anther car...should i fill it in the diff??
Just bought the car and did the necessary improvment and the full service... i m saldly need to minimise my expense but i ll not destroy a diff to save 20£!
NZ fan]still running the standard non LSD hypoid diff oil with no problems. i have consistanly done around 12000.km's per year for the last 5 years [car ex japan so speedo in km's said:
