Where to get serviced in North West ?

Just bought my First TVR, a 4.0 Chim 1998 in Blue 28k miles, inspected by Rob Ingleby who blessed it a V Good Car - well impressed with Robs tenancity on making sure it was right. Picked it up yesterday - Love it !!!!! Last service was 12 mths ago at 24k miles, so my understanding from the handbook is that it needs a 12mth service ??- What is involved in this service and where best to take it in the North West, im based in Preston, want someone who will do it with pride and care, not necessarily cheapest - CNeils/Gorners/SFR ????? advice greatly appreciated

By far the best place I have found is a garage near Northwich which is owned by Ian an ex mechanic at Christopher Neils. He is far cheaper than main dealer & SFR & is very thorough too. Every time I go his garage is full of TVR's which is always a good sign. His no. is 01606 831244.

rawstrona: All 3 of the ones you mentioned have a good reputation, plus the factory itself of course, especially as you are in Preston. I personally use SFR in Stockport, and have done for the 2 years I've owned my car. Shane is always spot on with all work done, and doesn't charge the earth.
Joospeed: Surely you can't have forgotten SFR ? Just in case you have, I'll remind you. Shane at SFR is a good indi in the Stockport area, you've used him before for a number of different things I believe.

If you're going to use the factory service dept, they are very good but you do need to book well in advance. From my previous experience, I would guess that if you book now, you will probably looking at a date sometime in May.

Just to set the record straight on that one .. I have *NEVER* used SFR for *anything at all*. I do use many other Indies for services or to send people when I'm too busy to help out immediately. SFR isn't one of them. Hope that clears up any misunderstanding.

I sit corrected then.
Can I ask why ? From what I understand, Shane used to build Cerbera engines at the factory, as well as working on the Speed 6 engine there too. I would have thought he would be the ideal man over this side of the pennines.

Thanks for the tip Howard, ill let you know how i go on next week, Ian didnt offer courtesy car but did say he would take me in to work from there !!! so maybe the courtesy has given up !!! Yep he was very customer focused over the phone, keen and accomodating, good pricing too.

Here's a question - which brand of shocks are on Smolenskis T350 and the factory cars sent for hot weather testing? Nztrev seems to have an idea.
Not seen Shane from SFR post on here for months - typing isn't his strong point - only computer he uses is a stone-age laptop with all the AJP software on it.
Hypothetical situation... sat at the top of the Pennines with a poorly TVR - I'd be with lil' pugs on that one

To add, there allso on the worlds quickest Tuscan racer and Chim 575, both down under.
And no, there not Nitrons....

don't particularly want to be drawn into a nitron v ohlins debate. I've said often enough on these pages that ohlins are the market leaders, are exceptionally good dampers and any money spent on ohlins would guarantee you a brilliant product with years of motorsport pedigree and a name synonymous with quality and high performance. They're also 500 pounds too expensive.
Incidently anyone visiting Autosport show would have seen one Neill Anderson (now thankfully free from his political constraints at TVR) deep in conversation with one Guy Evans from Nitron .. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of product from Neill wearing Nitron dampers in the future ..
but again, Ohlins are exceptionally good.
