I am intending to install some rear speaers in my Griff, and to make things easy there is a set of cables ending in a connector in the door release pannel behind the passenger seat.

This maybe a stupid question, but what type of connector is it? I trawelled a few websites and they are available, but they sort of go "ford" connector, "peugot" connector and so on.

Anyone know what it is, or is it another case of TVR using what they had at the time.

It is either use a connector or just cut the thing off.

Thanks

hey david...i was thinking of installing 2xspeakers in the rear as well, as the front ones might as well not be there!...also some tweeters in the front.

....where were you thinking of fitting them and what size did you have in mind..?

.....can you use the vents in the rear? as i wont be keeping many bodies in the boot!

...sorry i couldnt help with your query..

Hi, I am thinking Infinity Reference three way 6x9 in the rear, but I have to check the depth needed for the speakers first.

I replaced the door speakers with same size Infinity Reference speakers last week, and that made an improvment, especialy the ability to twist the tweeter to face upwards, the imaging is now excellent. I did think of adding seperate tweeters as well, but at the moment I am impressed with the speakers I used.

If I get time I may well do the rears this week or Saturday. I like the idea of the 6x9 but you need a depth of 74mm, but if I used 6.5 inch speakers I only need 53mm, so I need to take a look in the boot and see what space I have, or pull out one of the vents and insert a ruler to messure available depth.

Here is the Infinity Web site if yoiu are interested:

David,
got home last night and decided to look into the vents in the rear....

....opened the boot and pulled away the top part of the lining to find 2 speaker cables(i think) each side and i would imagine it would be very easy to fit....

.....did you have any luck?...are they speaker cables?

Interesting! I have not looked in the vents yet as my other half made me load the the car with garden rubish for a trip to the dump tonight...oh well.

But what I do know is I have a connector block in the access panel which houses the door opening gear, I am quite sure it is for rear speakers as the wires are the same colur from the back of the head unit, and the TVR supplied wiring loom that connects to the stereo does have four sets of speaker cables wired to it, and these are the same colour as the wires connected to the connector in the door access panel. I am hoping they are all connected.

It sounds like they have extended the loom further in your car.

If I get my chores done tonight I will have a look and frig a connection to the block to an old speaker I have and see what happens. If that works I just need to run the cables to the vent area and check how much depth I have for some speakers.

Been to the tip in my Chimaera a number off times, come on chaps it's a car, use it, you may have to drive slowly there with a boot full of old oil containers, duff batteries, scrap bikes, and a tv, but you can then put the roof back in there and take the long way home.

Nah, we (girlfriend and I) currently have: Griff 500, Mr2 roadster, Metro and a rover 620, its the rover 620 that I use as a DIY/rubish transporter.

Need to start getting rid of the metro and maybe the rover soon, runing out of places to park them.

Well I had the car outfor a bit of investigation last night, and have confirmed that the rear speaker cables do terminate in the passenger door pannel, so with a bit of luck tonight I will run some cable from this compartment to the vents, using a cunning plan involving a long firm but flexible plastic stip.

Inhave also bought the Infinity 3-way 6x9s for install, but due to the depth required 74mm and the depth I have 52mm, I need to come up with a solution. Which is either to mount them proud from the back over the vent holes on spacers, which would infact be 20mm or so solid tubes to cover the attaching screws to effectivly make four legs that would give the depth I need, but would also allow the air to circulate behind the speaker, thus keeping the npurpose of the original vents in place.

A second solution is as follows, and I apologise for using these photos in advance as they are not mine, but they do show Infinity 6x9s mounted in the rear of a Griff.

......Im a little confused...

....your about to extend your cables into the boot, past the petrol nosel bit and into the air vents....

....i have cables extending all the way to the vents in the boot...

...are these speaker cables? or will i need to route around in the passenger door to find some?

Ahh. My rear cables stop in the compartment that houses the door opener for the passenger door. My rear speaker cable terminates, it is attached at the dash board end and finishes in this compartment. I need to extend from this comparment to the rear vents in order to connect the speakers. It is not a big job, or at least it looks easy.

If I can get to this tonight, I will take a few pic's and post them.

missed a bit.

I tested mine last night by wiring the one of the old door speakers to a bit of wire, and then pushed them into the connector in the door panel, turned on the CD player, and it worked.

I have read before that some people have cables that end in the door access panel, and others have had wires to the back. I guess it is either another one of those TVR things, or it is due to the difference in some TVR models i.e. Chim or Griff, or the model types. Guess I will never know.

The main reason I knew mine where in the door, was someone else on this board said his where there, so I checked, I also compared the colours of the wires in the dash to the ones in the door panel, and they were the same.

The speakers are installed, and make a lot of difference sound wise. Pics and a descrption of the install will follow. It was not a difficult job, but it did take about three hours, mainly in being carfull.
