Hi.
My recently acquired year 2000 Chimaera has never had a spare fitted, just a couple of cans of tyre weld in the boot apparently.
I think I can get hold of a space saver rim but am not sure about the tyre. I'm told that the original size is 125/70x15. Would the tyre have to be this size or would a Fiesta space saver tyre at 125/80x15 be ok and fit in the boot? This size seems easy to get hold of.
I know a lot of people have no spare but I'm told that a tyre is scrap once tyre weld has been used.

Just checked mine and as you say it is a 70 profile. I always assumed it would be the same diameter as the rears because two different sized wheels on a LSD can shorten its life if driven any distance. To my surprise the space saver is 22" dia. And my rears are 24" dia so I think going up in profile can only be a good thing. Maybe just try the tyre on its own in your boot to see if it fits but should be fine especially if mounted behind the fuel tank mines on the r/h side and is a reasonably close fit.

I have to say I would be really wary of using a repaired tyre anyway so I'd not be too concerned about using tyre weld...I know a lot of people have no spare but I'm told that a tyre is scrap once tyre weld has been used.
I'm going to have to dump my space saver shortly anyway as it won't fit over the new brakes.
I don't carry a spare, I carry an RAC relay card instead.
But if I really wanted a spare, I would consider a full sized one.
With my bigger front brakes which require 17 inch wheels, I would simply get something like this, complete with tyre, off the bay of the flea:

4 stud Ford fit will fit the TVR, so long as you don't go bigger than your existing tyre size. Ford fit has the same centre bore as the TVR, same 4 x 108 PCD, slightly bigger offset (38-40), but you can always carry a 5mm spacer with you.
If you are really worried about your LSD, then you will need to carry two, but that will make your roof-in-boot tricky.
But if I really wanted a spare, I would consider a full sized one.
