Can anyone help me with the parts I need to find to retrofit a/c on a 95 Chim 4.0?

So far I have worked out that I need:

compressor (P38 Range Rover - loads on Ebay, are they the same?)
condenser (is this TVR specific?)
receiver drier (P38 Range Rover ?)
trinary switch (P38 Range Rover ?)
expansion valve (P38 Range Rover ?)
evaporator / heater box (TVR - found one of these)

These parts I am not sure about the donor manufacturers
thermoswitch
heat exchanger(fuel cooler)

I have found a car which has a/c and am wondering if I should take everything from it as far as possible or as I don't know the condition of them, whether I should get the non specific TVR items new or reconditioned elsewhere.

Also what other bits should I get from the donor car as the pipework snakes in and out of the wheel arches and I am not sure how practical getting them out will be. I thought at least cutting them out so I can see what I need and then getting a new set made up - good idea? Will I need anything on the fuses, relays etc. I know Chimaeras had parts in their loom for a/c but as this is a 95 car I am not sure if it is all there.

And I know that taking the roof off is easier smile but I am satisfied that with careful installation of the pipework /crimping and sealed ducting that a decent a/c system can be achieved.

Good luck with the project. My car is a 95 with a/c, I can tell you that there are two relays On the same lead that the fuel pump and ecu relays are on. They both have yellow plugs and similar wire colours the one that has a brown wire seems to be for the compressor clutch. There is also a micro switch on the temp dial that closes when it's on full cold, I have a switch instead of this so I can use ac and heat at the same time brilliant for de misting the screen in cold weather (prob. Not a problem where you live)

Would you happen to know if everything else on the ECU is the same, ie, apart from these two relays are there other feeds coming out of the ECU / fuse boards.

I would expect there to be an electrical feed on the compressor, anywhere else?

I imagine all the looms are the same so the a/c compressor clutch wire should be there. If you google "14cux pin out" you will find which pins/wires are used for a/c.

Hi all, I know this is an old thread however I was wondering whether the aircon install was ever completed?

I'm looking to do the same and would like to keep to the original parts if possible.

Does anyone have a list of the required part numbers?

Many thanks, Andrew.

Yes got it up and running and it works, although the main thorn in its side is that due to the poor ductwork, getting a good blast of cold air out of the heater box was not really possible as the two vents either side of the dash are quite small, and the drivers side is connected to fresh air only.

So I had to use the vent directly above the passenger footwell, under the heater box and the vent that comes out from the transmission tunnel on the driver's side and add 2" pipework under the dash and terminate them with round flapped vents that direct cold air up towards the face. Adding the screen vents also helps and for the UK I think this would be fine. Here in Cyprus, it just about handles enough cooling even for 40deg, but it is in no way as powerful as a modern car.

If I was to do it again, I would look at a modern heater cooling box with fans and place that where the current box is, and reroute all of the ducts so that they all work efficiently. The rest of the system is standard Range Rover and is easy for an A/C tech to put that together for you.

Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated.

I spend a few weeks in France over the summer during the heatwave and both my wife and I baked inside the Chimaera. We even had a few hot days here in the UK at 35+ degrees which were unbearable in the car too, the dark interior doesn't help either!

Thanks again, Andrew.
