So.....fitting a new clutch?

Just came back from more test driving after the suspension refurb.

Ride height was far too low, so raised it an inch and after settling, the rear sits at circa 150mm ground to corner of rear outrigger.

Close enough for me, and to treat myself, I took my Mrs out to the local greasey spoon cafe.

In 4th or 5th, at low revs giving it some throttle there was definitely some clutch slip. In fact quite a bit of it! Which, I presume, tells me I need a new clutch....

Now bearing in mind my 'workshop' is a driveway with a downward slope, I am presuming I will be unable to do this 'at home'?

I really don't want to take it to a garage; but do as much as I can meeself.....

Although it would be possible to do it in the drive I think the main problem would come with trying to get the car high enough to get the box and bell housing out from underneath.
Fitting the clutch itself is the easy part.

Then again, seeing what you've achieved and managed on the driveway so far, I'm sure you're up for the challenge

When I was 22 I changed the clutch and gearbox on my wife's Mini on a sloping drive. It took me three weeks of sweat and tears weekends and evenings, and when I took the old one back for an exchange refund I asked what it would have cost to have them do it. "Two hours labour" came the answer.....less than it had cost me to buy all the tools I needed. I could have wept......

I would get a proper man to do it, as he will have the right tools and will know what else is a potential problem while he is in there. You already know who I would get to do it.......

This is a debate I too have had recently.
I agree with the above post entirely. It is about 5 hours labour to fit a clutch but without a ramp for access I think it would be a bit of a pain. Although it is fairly straightforward I too would get a specialist to do it.
After looking at various clutches too, I think the only one to go for in a standard car is the AP racing one. You only want to do it once!

Some years ago I had a new clutch fitted at Neil Garners place. I was driving home less than two hours later!

I did mine last year after a garage had squashed the thrust bearing.
Without the help of a mate and a ramp I would have been proper screwed.

I had my slave Cyl replaced at the same time so do as above and you'll enjoy your clutch for years to come without being reminded of the pain!

Got the big c in my shoulder now which is giving some grief but hey ho they keep patching me up! Gone 16months now against the 12weeks they originally gave me 😃😃

Stop eating at the Super Sausage all that weight will be dragging the clutch out. If you need a hand with the clutch more than willing to help. Never done a TVR but changed plenty of landrover units so happy with the front bit and heavy gearboxes.

I am back in UK on Thursday if you fancy a breakfast Saturday at the aformentioned I would still like a look at the headlamp cowlings.

Urgh, I've had a complete AP Racing Clutch kit sat in my garage for about a year. Can't bring myself to fitting it. I must find someone who can do it for me!

What can I say!

Gobsmacked from the offers of ramps! (that wasn't the intention of the post BTW!)

Mat Smith will be doing the alignment for me a week on Sat, so I had already asked him to sort clutch out for me (as well as a few other little bits) before I saw the replies.

So, if I may - offers are not completely dead as I need to do my diff bushes in the next 12 months....
