Tyres - Is the choice that limited??

Bad News = Advisory as rear tyres need replacing

Started to look into tyres and what I can't believe is the limited choice of tyres is out there in standard Chim sizes. The problem seems to be the fronts as they are not a common size. It appears from my initial search that a few compaies do the rears but only a few do the fronts to match.

Is this really the case?

My car currently runs on Goodyear F1 GSD 2's which are no longer available. GSD 3's are but these have a different tread pattern so started me considering all of the options rather than sticking with Goodyear.

I've been told that Toyo Proxy TR1-R's are not available right at the moment, anyone running on these?

I no this subject has been done before (many times) and I read that the Toyo is not that suited to the Chim, anyone disagree?

So waht do I do???

I had SO2s before and these seem similar: good wet grip, but difficult to compare like with like here, so I think so we end up relying on opinion and individual stories. I was most influenced by Steve and the bible based on his race experience.

I read somewhere on here that SO3pp's are being phased out. I'm not sure whether Bridgestone have a replacement. Toyo are phasing out the T1-S but they do declare a substitute in the form of T1-R.

TVR Engineering recommends the Toyo for Chimaera & Griffith but there are issues with mould slip causing these tyres to produce very poor lateral grip for the first 1,000 miles. There is some information coming from a friend in the tyre monkey business that Toyo's need to be taken out of their raps and stood for a month. That way the slip agent dries out and the tyres are good once scrubbed in. I here varying reports of Toyo all the way form hatred to suggestions that they are good equivalents to the old SO2pp.

Ive just put toyos on mine as the pirelli's it had on were crap. Again, I was advised to take it easy for quite a while until the coating had come off the tyres.
Paid £89 + 10 fitting etc + vat for 225/50/15's

Yep. Same for Wedges and S series cars.

The GSD3s are a better performing tyre. Just buy a pair of these.

Has anyone tried Dunlop 8000 or 9000 on a TVR?

I had Michelin's on my Chim. Wouldn't use anything else. Bridgestones were awful and wore away really quickly.
I have Toyo's on the front of my Cerb and they are rubbish too. Don't see what the love affair with Bridgestone and Toyo is myself.
