Alarm & Locking Remote.

Unfortunately I have only one remote for the locking and alarm on my '95 Chim. Obviously I'd quite like another, what's the best way to go about this? Is it the sort of thing any decent alarm specialist could sort for me or is it going to have to be via TVR at vast expense and hassle?

Depends on which alarm you have and whether the bits are still available. Foxguards are out of production I think. Meta went bust but came back and a Meta specilaist should be able to sort you out providing you have serial numbers etc.

Sorry to be a dullard, but how will I know which mine is? I'm still awaiting delivery of your Chim book - will that tell me?

I'm in exactly the same situation as you, having only one remote for my Meta alarm set-up. Most companies round me have advised that unless I've got the red strip and code they can't do it without. In fact most have said it would be cheaper to rip it out and install a new set up, something I'm not willing to do.
I did however come across a chap called Carl baker who will overwrite the main alarm ECU, give it a new code number and supply 2 new key fobs for £129 plus VAT.

Red strip? Code? I really am the uber-duffer! Thanks for tip, sounds like an excellent last resort - if indeed mine is a Meta. (Must try and be less clueless before posting in future.....)

Most TVRs came with the Meta system as standard, if you look at the remote you should see what looks like an Art Deco Fan shape on it which is the Meta symbol.
Apparently the red strip came with all new cars and was the Id/code needed in order to replace fobs etc, the remotes use a rolling code so without this its impossible to just order a new remote hence the unit having to be reprogrammed.
Carl has advised me it takes 2 hours max to do and he'll do it whilst you wait. Their based in stroud, Hants which for me is a bit of a hike but firstly I cannot get it done round where I live so have no choice,
and secondly it gives a bloody good excuse for a long distance trip out in the Chim - Not that I normally need much of an excuse that is...

I've just found out that Bridgwater Electronics apparently do replacement fobs for Foxguard alarms, and mine is a Foxguard. Will be giving them a try first, for sure.

Mine's a 1993 car - which unit would be installed?

Is the ECu under the dash on the passenger side and incorporating the central locking?

When my Meta alarm died and the fob crumbled, I bought another one from Douglas Valley Breakers (about £30 I think) and sent it to www.alarmremotes.co.uk (obviously I sent it to their offices and no to the website!). They introduced the alarm unit to a brand new fob, who got on like a house on fire, and then posted the whole lot back down to me. About £50 for the fob and programming I think). Jolly happy I was, as I had already started to investigate the £multi-hundred options for a new alarm system.
