Even though i still have this issue to sort,

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
(on and off when running she feels as though a cylinder goes down, depends on what low revs shes at when it happens)

she goes like the wind and i mean gusting LOL,and keeps going, much quicker than my rebuilt 4L i owned.

Dont know if its soley down to the Rebuilt 5L by V8D,or added combination of rebuilt, diff and gearbox...but god she is a monsterdrivingwoohoowoohoo

Next stop in New Year is down to Jools for AFM upgrade and dyno daythumbup

I know Rob had built som cracking 5.0 engines over the years for TVRs. It is probably an MC1 or a stealth but would be interested to know which and what else he has done to it.

Here you go Matt, main description taken from the build sheet

Engine TVR 500

Short engine
The short engine consists a re-conditioned tvr 5.0 block, its the small journal variety which has been cross bolted, the block is checked and machined for line bore accuracies, the deck heights are matched sides, fully chemically deep cleaned, fitted with new competition cam bearings and new side core plugs. The crankshaft is a standard tvr 5.0 running 2.3”main bearings and 2”big end bearings the crankshaft is standard size but polished, The connecting rods are stock tvr 5.0, the pistons are again stock 5.0 items, with the valve reliefs for the use of high lift camshafts, the main bearings are made by glyco and the big ends are clevite, all moving parts are internally balanced. Including the flywheel and front pulley.

Valvetrain and camshaft
The camshaft is a stealth camshaft, the lift is .484 on inlet and .495 on exhaust, duration is @.0.50 215 inlet and 224 on exhaust, due to my profiles being stolen no more information is allowed, lifters are competition specification, standard pushrods, reconditioned rocker arms with new shafts.

Cylinder heads
The cylinder heads are our stage 3 spec, fully ported and polished, valves are stainless steel with waisted stems, inlets are 1.630” exhaust is 1.4”, guides are shortened and bulleted, combustion chambers all matched to within .2cc, overall chamber size is 31cc giving a total compression ratio of 10-3, guides are fitted with the neoprene seals and double valve springs fitted, both head faces are skimmed.

Fasteners and gaskets
The head gaskets are a competition spec gasket .040” thick all other gaskets are factory oem land rover. The head bolts are our own spec bolt, comprising of a high tensile metal and custom washers, all other bolts are factory landrover. Serpentine front cover fitted with new oil pump gears, helix competition clutch, fully lightened flywheel.

Very nice indeed Mark, I remember Rob rebuilt Del's (seaside) Griff 500 and that came back a monster. I remember he took me out in it and it was proper quick. Interesting to read the full spec, looks great and good to see it has been internally balanced.

Once it has been mapped it should be even better!

I'd rather be persistent and sort it out, than give up and wave good bye to 2k,for the amount of yearly driving i do in her.

If like BIG PHIL, it was my daily driver, that would be different.

Anyway i like the old set up,just as it was meant to beangelrolleyes

Nothing wrong with 14CUX, the fuelling is still spohisticated even by modern standards, lack of mapped spark does let it down however.

I am still running 14CUX on mine mapped by Mark Adams and it drives very nicely indeed and with lots of power when you put your foot down. I wouldn't personally waste money on an aftermarket system unless there is something in particular you want to solve that the 14CUX cannot do.

Looking forward to seeing the dyno charts from when you get it mapped Mark.

Do you know Matt, it is good to hear someone else keeping the old dizzy etc going( nothing against the MODIFIED crew,as you are also doing a great job)

Just need to correct the idle issue, which hopefully is the AFM,then in new year increase the AFM size with Jools, and see what we come up with from a standard set up

You have a similar engine spec to mine, I have also remained with the 14CUX, Jools mapped mine with a 20afm in April, the results are pretty impressive with an engine that runs very smoothly (still some shunting) but no fueling issues even on start up on a cold day smile
