Which breakdown cover to use?

I'm covered with Green Flag and have a household cover which covers all cars and drivers in the house.
On the odd occasion I've had to use them they have been excellent. Rescued me in the TVR when I lost the sump plug and all the oil and had me back on the road in less than an hour. (No damage to the engine!)
They also cover for home start.
Can't fault them really.

I have RAC cover because I have found that RAC men know what a spanner is for, and that the engine is under the bonnet, whereas all the AA men I have met only know how to call a recovery truck.
In the one occasion in 30,000 miles I needed to call them to my TVR, they stayed until it was fixed. And had a flat 100 amp fuse in the van on a Sunday afternoon.
Personal cover again, with recovery, not bothered with home start as we have cars littering the place.

Whoever you choose make sure that a car age limit is not applied to the cover. Mannings could not cover me for this reason as my car is over 16 years old.
I got around this by taking out Personal Cover with the AA on the driver not the car.

by the way I don't work for them, I just rate them. I get full EU wide cover, any car no restrictions.
I’m with Green Flag, used them once with the Landrover, they were great, also the Fathering Law has used them again no problems, got a house full of cars covered with them. One thing to consider is Green Flag will take you all the way home on one lorry, I hear the AA do it in relays, so if you’re a long way from home you could end up waiting at pick up points when all you really want to do is get home.
Also if you’re on your way somewhere green flag will take you there, then if you can’t get the car fixed will come and collect you at the end of your holiday.

Have called them out once due to a snapped throttle cable. Sat on the A12 for 3 hours, over the phone a mechanic decided he wouldn't come out to attempt a repair/fix as he deemed to be in a dangerous location (hard shoulder)& went for recovery straight away.
Messed me around with ETA for recovery, then lied about the fact they needed a special recovery truck because a Chimaera is so low off the ground!
Agency recovery truck confirmed it was bulls**t.
Should have logged a complaint but never got round to it.

I wouldn't bother with the RAC.. broke down in Yorkshire this summer. 3 hour wait for recovery (contractors), who then dumped me to go and get someone else. Another 3 hour wait.
Got home 10pm having broken down 90 miles from home at 1pm, which to me is ridiculous.
Had green flag for the westfield, broke down once no problem at all, home within 3 hours.
