Chimaera engine tolerances?

Hi all, I am considering buying a Beemer which has been converted with a 4.0 V8 from a Chimaera with the intention of taking it off the road and onto the drag strip.

Does anyone in here know whether the "standard" V8 in a Chimera is actually built within performance tolerances and likely to take the stresses of a supercharger being added and used infequently in anger without needing a rebuild or would the bottom end need further work to handle the additional power?

I don't know, but amongst other things it'll depend how much boost you're looking to run and whether you have the cross-bolted block. What sort of supercharger installation are you considering?

Undecided as yet, at this point I am trying to work out the feasability of buying and upgrading this car. Having done a little more research it looks like the best bet would be to pass it by and hold out for something with a yank V8 conversion as the Rover V8 doesn't seem to be a lump that can easily (cheaply) be modified to produce decent bhp.

The guy selling the car is no expert and pointed me in the direction of this forum initially as at the moment it's really something I fancy but haven't really looked into it in a big way. After doing a bit of reading up it looks like I have much to learn.

If you can get the RV8 in the beemer, then an LS series small block will go in too. That's going to be a much better choice if you want big power for the strip.

If this is the one on ebay then it is owned by a PHer who only bought it recently. Do a trawl through the archives in the past few weeks ...

Cheers, found the threads and also the link to the auction he bought it from. All seems in order but don't know why he is selling it at a loss so soon so have emailed the original owner to see if there's anything pertinant I should know.
