1999 Chimera on it's way questions

Hi took the plunge bought a Chimaera , it's fitted with a cassette player come radio come 6 CD player which doesn't work--is there a modern system that will replace it, and fit.It's fitted with a brushed alloy dash, could you tell me if the dash cover slots over the dials or you need to remove them to fit it cheers Keith

If you are asking if you can remove the radio head unit without removing the dash, then the answer is yes.

I've had my '99 Chimaera for 14 years, it has a cassette head unit with 6 CD autochanger. I have no idea whether it works or not. I've never switched it on

They are standard DIN size so any aftermarket stereo the same size will fit. The head unit and the changer in the boot both have in line fuses so it may be those. My 2000 Chimaera still has the original r/c with autochanger and I fixed it. If it's Pioneer (most likely) you'll need these:

I did exactly this with my Griffith (same fittings on dash for stereo) and can confirm the above. Have to say that I very rarely ever used it. It's true, you will prefer listening to the v8

Standard DIN are not all the same. The two +ve, 'memory' & 'aux' are often reversed

Stuck a Pioneer MVH-X370BT Car Stereo in mine. Can stream music via bluetooth from iphone / phone so no need for cd's or memory sticks or anything. Radio pretty much sucks in these and unless you plug into radio station its pointless. Plus phone satnav shouts at you then.
Added bonus of phoning people too. Granted all they can hear is engine, but thats kinda the point and it ruins their day lol

After nearly 3 yrs of ownership I swapped mine for an Alpine unit from Halfords.

Has bluetooth and hands free and for the amount I use the car its just fine.
