3.08 Differential for LS Chimaera
Discussion
Hi all,
as my present 3.45 diff is leaking, I'd like to take the opportunity to swap it for a 3.08 unit to get the revs down a bit on my 1999 LS Chimaera, especially for longer autobahn cruises.
I already talked to John from Readmanracing who informed me that these parts are no longer available as new. Nevertheless, John is kind enough to look out for used parts to provide me with a refurbished 3.08 diff.
Is there anybody out there who maybe has a 3.08 BTR pinion and crownwheel on offer or knows of any other source?
A complete 3.08 diff fitting a 1999 Chimaera would of course also be very welcome! ;-)
Cheers,
Stefan

One of the best modifications i made.
The 3.45:1 is too short for a lightweight TVR especially with a torquey V8.
My 1/4 mile times are the same at 12.4 with the 3.08 and it will cruise at 90 under 3000 rpm. I can get 30 mpg from a 330 bhp 4.6 if i behave.
The best part is that it doesnt run out of revs at 160. I achieved 176 in a standing mile and am sure the car will now do the magic 300 kph.

no matter what, I need one this winter
Here's what happens if I fit a 3.08 diff to 'Ol Gasbag' which is currently shod with 225/50 16 tyres and running a T5 box with a 3.77:1 diff....
At 50 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 2,039rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 1,665rpm
At 60 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 2,446rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 1,999rpm
At 70 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 2,854rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 2,332rpm
At 80 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 3,262rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 2,665rpm
At 85 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 3,466rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 2,832rpm
At 90 MPH in fifth my engine is normally turning at 3,670rpm, with a 3.08 diff this drops to 2,998rpm
So I think even 'Ol Gasbag' will easily pull a 3.08 diff.
I've consistently found the best economy can be achieved by keeping engine speed below 3,000rpm, so assuming it doesn't blunt acceleration in the lower gears a 3.08 diff seems perfect to me.
I'm a definitely in
