drive shaft noise

Hi all. Bit of a daft question. I've been getting this noise from the rear a while now and I think I may have found it. Anyway my question is should the drive shaft make a loud clunking when pushed towards the diff? It sound like there's no sifting in the movement just a clunk. I'm assuming that the shaft makes this movement when the suspension is compressing? Obviously I can make the shaft hit quite badly but on the road you have other noises. Should I be getting any clunking from the shaft? Many thanks

Aren't there circlips at either side of the CV joint which would stop this?
I don't have my photos here at work or I would check for you.

As per my comments on Facebook, that's been damaged by an impact there's way too much movement.

If my memory serves me right there is a retaining circlip on the shaft which holds it in position. Looks like yours has broken/come off. I would remove the driveshaft for inspection.

Hmm, that does seem excessive. Best strip out and take a look. Not that difficult, just remember to mark the top wishbone/upright for re-assembly. CV's could be shot/circlips.

thanks guys, ive dropped her a friend of ours who specialises in classics. I think it might be the bearings and carrier have had it as was suggested on facebook. they will be looking at it tomorrow so ill keep you posted.
