Brake Discs - Is this price right

Hi,
My current discs and pads (F&R) are due for replacement and I wanted to upgrade to some decent vented fronts whilst keeping the rears standard.
I've gotten a quote for Tarox 260mm front grooved (red-dot) with Tarox pads at £170 +VAT for the discs and 68.33 + VAT for the pads, whilst the rears (standard) come in at £68.50 + VAT for EACH disc and £35.59 for the pads. Do these prices seem reasonable to you as to me they sound very expensive, especially the rears. If so any ideas where the best/cheapest place to buy them from is? The car is a 97 (P) facelift 400.

The std brakes are terrible - and Tarox just seem to make up a number for something not really particulary special. Get some bolt on 283mm AP rotors with the caliper spacers for 250ish. No point putting th 260mm back on. WAY to bloody small - Colinrob has done it recently so should know where to get them. My old ones were from Raven (ne Castel) and Now Skater Motorsport (ask for Mike if still there).

If you know what parts you are after - as there are quite a few variations alternatively remove your existing ones then you will save a lot by using a MOTOR FACTOR.

These companies are listed in your yellow pages, they supply the trade, all the fast fit garages and other garages etc. The majority have a trade counter and are happy for the 'public' to walk in off the street ie. you won't need an account with them and can pay by usual methods - cash,cheque some debit cards or perhaps even milk bottle tops! Just ring ist to check they are likely to have the parts and have a trade counter.

I have used them for pads in the past for the TVR, if you are able to take the old ones in they will have an application book with diagrams in the back just to confirm you have the correct fitment. Chances are they won't have TVR listed in the book but some have a computerised system requiring your reg number not sure if TIVs are listed on these. If you search the threads you will find out what Ford they are most likely to be from, this will assist with cross reference.

SOME MIGHT BE A BIT MORE LIMITED WITH AVAILABLITY OF PERFORMANCE PARTS THAN OTHERS BUT THEY ARE VERY GOOD FOR THE RUN OF THE MILL STUFF. - A few phone calls should determine this.

You will find that some are more helpfull than others - as is the case with most things in life but those better one's tend to see you more often.
Hope that saves a quid or two which will be useful to buy a pint to wash the brake dust down once the jobs completed!

Thanks for all your replies, I've just ordered some 20 groove Red Dot discs and fast road pads for the front (recommended these by Tower View), sticking with the 260mm for the moment as funds are limited - managed to find these for £116 for the discs and £51 for the pads (+VAT). As for the rears I'll give the motor factors a try.

You may find that the rear discs are more expensive because they are larger than the fronts.
Don't buy the 20 groove discs they are rubbish. In no time at all they will have clogged up with brake dust and they tend to rust badly in the grooves too.
Use no more than 6 grooves when looking at discs and avoid cross-drilled discs.

Tarox only have those really thin groove that as said clog and rust and are prety much a waste of time - no groove or deeper wider ones are better IMHO.

Cheers, Do you know if it is the same for Red Dot which is what I've ordered. I've spoken to them and its not too late to change my order from 20 to 6 groove. Is this what the PH collective would suggest as the best?
