Max seat width

Does anyone know the maximum seat width that will fit in a Chim?

My car isn't with me atm

I've just took at tape measure and the maximum width of the area the seat sits in is roughly 500 mm,,
The standard seat at the pivot point is about 440 mm but then you have the adjust handle taking up a good 50mm

The widest part of the seat is on the base cushion at the front and is about 480mm but the seat is fixed offset and close up to the transmission tunnel,, there's still a good 40-50 mm air space on the right hand side towards the door opening,,

Anything around 450-500 mm wide should fit in,, but don't take my word for it Alex,,

How wide are they then,, it's not the base width it's the side supports that are the deciding factor I'd have thought !

Nearly all seats are too big hence Elise/Exige seats are a good bet.

I can't see a size, there discontinued by the looks of it for the 600 model,,
You usually mount these with separate brackets I assume, fixed, I'd be concerned about how high they would be,,,

Nice seats though mate, need to be very strong for your application,

Looks like Peters right there Alex,,, but do remember the transmission tunnel does go wider as you go higher so something might just squeeze in there! Trial and error,, ?

I have an old Elise seat in the loft you can have if you want to mess around .

.....and I have a pair of race seats that are a gnats too tight for me.
I am never going to use them now, so you are welcome to have them if you want.
I have had them fitted in my Chimaera, so know that they fit.
There is some add-in padding, but they are certainly not built for comfort.

The points the lads have made are all valid.
Most other seats are too high - but you are one of the few people that i know where that might not matter too much.
Most are also too wide. Many seem ok at the seat base, but are then too wide at shoulder level.
TVR seats are your best bet if you are lashing out cash, as they all slide and recline.
You have travelled in my Tuscan seats, so know what they feel like.
Intatrim at Telford do (Odyssey) seats that fit I believe. They can make then in materials and colour to suit your requirements.

Just tried a recaro seat in mine & it's just a little too wide.......



It's 54cm across the widest part of the base & about the same across the 'kidney wings'. You have to squeeze the door shut. I think a seat that's a max of 50cm wide would be the limit. Also you have to be careful the shoulder wings aren't too wide.

Hi Alex,
don't forget to take a cage into account if You plan on fitting one. Got a few seats and a caged chim if You wanted to call in at the barn during next week. Also got a Tillet race seat in the wedge racer.

£170 for a new seat will get you rubbish IMHO.

A pair of Exige used Probax seats are generally at least £750 secondhand!

Pretty st I'd say saying that if your seats gonna get knocked out of shape, the drivers gonna be fked anyway

COG has a pair of Jaguar XJS seats for his car. Don't know if he has actually fitted them but this might give an idea.

This is what I was trying to say - you'd think that any sports car seats would fit.......but most are too high, especially with a helmet on, and many are too wide, particularly at shoulder height.

Then there's the issue of seat angle and runner fitment. They don't look narrow, but Chimaera seats are narrow where it matters.
