Non-Starter - tried the obvious

My Chim won't start from cold. The fuel pump primes and I have tried changing both bosch relays, but I don't get any noise when ticking over. I'm at a loss with what to try. Theres plenty of juice in the battery, but nothing after that

It could be a knackered starter motor?
A problem with the ECU?


Any suggestions?

Put the headlights on and turn the key.. if they dim with the key turn then power is getting to the starter motor and most likely the pre-engager is stuck. A Gentle tap with a hammer should sort that out..

Not uncommon and worth checking.

The engine would crank though, if it was just a missing spark..

I put on the Headllights and tried to crank the engine, but the lights did not dim, and once again no noise after the fuel pump had primed.

This leads me to a knackered fuel pump or:

Does the ECU in anyway control power to the starter motor?

Or any other ideas?

I read it twice but still can not see if its turning over ? If its not turning over, check the spade connector on the starter solenoid,if ok, its back to the immobilser circuit or ignition switch. There is lead you can go to in the footwell that is a direct supply to the solenoid.

Neither the fuel pump nor the ECU have anything to do with cranking the engine over. If the engine doesn't crank over I suspect you've got a dead starter motor, immobiliser playing up, or a wiring fault.
