battery terminals

Help needed again guys, I have had to replace the battery but forgot which terminals to reconnect, the one wire that has a snake cover in black, I think its a fuse relay wire is that connected to the negative terminal and as is obvious I guess the two red wires are connected to the security isolator switch,,,

Below are pictures of the black fuse wire, I just cant remember where its connected to,maybe the negative terminal but also maybe where the red wires are connected at the security switch doh,,,

Normal practice would be anything with a fuse to live (positive)


Can you get some better pictures and clarify exactly what you have?

A bit fat black cable
A big fat red cable
two thinner red cables
and the "mystery" cable?

Ok sorry the main battery cables+and-with no problem one red going to the security switch coming from positive battery terminal and there is one other a twin brown having a ring connector (this is the one i cant fathom), possibly it goes to the negative terminal at the battery or the switch where the 2 red go , it has an on off security swich but assume it has no difference,,, thanks for your patience,,,

+1 - negatives should *NEVER* have fuses in them...

Again, +1, the photo is too small to make anything out really...

You can probably safely presume that the thinner reds are positive feeds and there should be a heavy black ground and heavy red positive that heads off to the starter too.

My battery had (has) round post terminals - didn't yours? All the cables should have in that case been terminated back at the clamps and in that case it should have been easy to work out what goes where ... similarly the natural "lay" of the cables should also give you an indication too.

Where does the brown go to? It *SHOULD* be a positive feed depending on who's wiring code they've followed but my fear with these cars is that they have often been buggered about with in the past ...

OK - If they're fused then it's sensible to assume that they're positives...

The2 browns terminated to a ring terminal and with an inline fuse should be the auxiliary supplies to the fuse box and should be on the + side of the battery, if you open the fuse carrier up I think you will find its rated at 80A To double check you can leave it off and you should find pretty well nothing working in the way of lights heater etc

lol ok so I connect to the two red cables one coming from the battery to the security switch the on off with the one I have in my left hand, with the pic below,,
