hello thanks for quick replies so far,but i forgot i wanted to ask if this is normal....i filled car up and orange light came on ,on guage,after using a bit of juice light went out,im just worried that light wont come on when im low and that i could run out of petrol,remember i am planning a foreign trip and dont want to fill up on guess work.i let it run a little low to see if light came on but didnt want to risk running out.is this normal as tvr booklet only mentions orange light when low.ps i dont know how to put pictures of my bikes/car on this site.i have them in my computer but i am no computer expert and have no idea.ps my electric mirrors dont work and i have usual chipped dash veneer and speedo not working but hey what a crackin drive,rob

The reason I asked "which orange light" is, as mentioned above, I didn't know a Chim has a low fuel light?

u never know there might be some tvr owning females outhere who would like the chance of a free treatment!!!
my car has a orange bulb sitting(or standing!)in my guage......must be an extra....my car must be very special compared to the rest of u lots.i would prefer the car not too stop in middle of motorway before i know how low i can go..(im tight and wanna get the last drop b4 i fill up)...i think it must be wired back to front if light comes on when full and then goes off after a while...i bet dash has been off for speedo or other work and someone forgot which wire goes where...now that sounds sensible dont it.????

Yep, early ones do, and they are often quite paranoid.
The light can start to come on at around 1/4 of a tank (and higher if you are swishing about on corners). A good guide is to keep an eye on the miles you are doing.. reckon to fill up every 200-220 miles, the gauge itself is pretty acurate though. Cheers

does the orange light ever come on when full,also i cant watch mileage as mileometer broken...typical.....i will test petrol guage by running as low as poss and see if light comes on...cheers

I was going to suggest the trip meter but you say yours is not working. I see 200-220 miles per tank if I fill up between quarter full and empty. Mind you, I have seen 300 miles per tank on a run.
I keep an emergency gallon in the boot in case I ever misjudge the distance to the next Optimax. Saves embarassment.

Yes it does... by the time you're down to about an 1/8th of a tank you should have the light on all the time. Bear in mind that 1/8th of a tank doesnt get you all that far
