Driving home from work tonight. Stopped at a junction. Gently pull out clutch to go across and BANG from the back end. No transmission. Got on the blower to recovery man. Ask nicely for low loader. Gonads frozen. 1 hour later man and low loader arrives and takes me home. Will turn up tomorrow to take naughty Chim and my wallet to TVR mend it man.
Not happy. Reckon if I'm lucky it's half-shaft. If I'm unlucky (oh yes) it's diff.

It doesn't seem likely that the CV joint itself would come apart, the distance between the hub and the diff is relatively fixed and there's only so much dive at either end. How would the half shaft move endways far enough for one end to drop out, and why would it want to? On the other hand I sheared the end off the half shaft numerous times until eventually I got some uprated half shafts. They go at the circlip groove inside the boot, which might look as if the joint has come apart at first glance.
Will let you know the details as to exactly what's broken when its been stripped down.
GreenV8s spot on with the half shaft breaking at the circlip point. That's what the mend it man reckoned had gone when I rang to book it in.
As for limited slip diff working with one side not connected to the wheels. It may have kicked in if I'd upped the revs but I didn't try it to find out.
