Digital odometer not switching to trip

The digital odometer usually switches to the trip meter when the button is pressed and the same button resets the trip when held in but the button has stopped working.
Its currently stuck on the trip so will likely be an MOT fail which is due in about a month.
Anyone had this problem and advise of a fix?

Others may advise on a fix. The mechanical ones often free themselves after a while, but not sure about the digital ones.
The odometer is not an MoT check item, but if you have one fitted that says 99999 or 00000 or whatever, that is the mileage that will be recorded on the MoT certificate, and on the DVLA database. This will cause an anomaly in the cars history, since all MoT mileages have been recorded on a database with public access, for 10 years now in some areas.

I was showing the trip distance so it would look odd.
HOWEVER: I removed and disconnected the speedo and then reconnected it again and it now shows the odometer mileage. However, it still won't switch between the odometer and the trip. seems like the micro switch may have given up the ghost then.
