Good morning everyone,
Not having a good time at the moment with set up of fathers 430 Chim.
We got the ECU mate and followed the handbook all good until engine started then display goes blank.
Kept stopping and re setting but wont work with engine running at all. Have contacted ECU mate to see if something we are doing or faulty.
This car has been in bits over a 5 year period and lots of changes made including shorter trumpets and better rad etc.
Regarding the setting up we have found that we cant reduce the base idle down to the required level on tickover as engine wont run and allen key screw on plenum out of movement is that normal ?
Car ticking over at about 1300 but revving up only brings it down slowly.
Could it be an air leak or something do you think
Am going to replace stepper motor and hopefully get ECU mate working but any ideas would be great as usual.

Stepper as first choice. Air leak second.

Agree with above wink but I am going with air leak since you have been in the intake frown

Just to confirm- you do have the air feed fully clamped or blocked off to the stepper to set the base idle? As for the ECUmate, you should have a display whilst the unit has 12 v from the cigarette socket with or without an ECU connection. If not the unit is faulty or 12v is missing.

Many thanks everyone for all your input.
what I also failed to mention yesterday is that dear Dad managed to connect battery wrong way round before car pulled apart and coudnt find any 100 amp fuse on it.
He has since relocated the battery to the boot and it would seem that we have a charging problem also hence the ecumate wont work when the engine is running !! Alternator replaced and new battery last weekend so on it goes !!
Am wondering if the 80 amp fuse behind the original battery location has been frazzled and this is adding to the problems.
Thanks again will renew stepper, replace intake manifold gasket ( again ) and look for that pesky fuse !

Unlikely to be the 80amp fuse gone as if it was you wouldn't have power to the fusebox and just about nothing would work.

The 100 amp fuse should be on the o/s chassis rail near the starter motor

He won't have one of those it's a pre serp, reverse connecting the battery is certainly not recommended though

You really need to get to the bottom of what is causing the ECUMate to go offline when you start the engine because if its something screwed because of the wrong polarity mistake you could be forever chasing something physical when its actually an electrical issue.
Find another owner who will let you plug you ECUMate into their car and see how it behaves.

It would also help if you complete the Region part of your profile. You'll find when people know you're local they offer all kinds of help.
