locked out!!!!

hello i havent actually been locked out yet with a flat battery but i believe this is a common problem due to lack of use of car etc,i will have to leave mine unused at certain times and now im worried that the bugger might go flat and leave me p***ed off.if someone can tell me quickest way of entering vehicle when this happens i would be grateful.....u can email me privately as i know PH has a problem with giving info out to everyone,thanks

Get yourself a battery conditioner and you'll never be locked out.

i have one of those but my car is unfortunately left outside and the herberts where i live would love to tug on a nice wire leading into house/car!!!

If you are anticipating this then why not prepare. Get an external cigar lighter socket (one with a cover over it). Connect directly to the battery via a 5amp inline fuse and mount it in behind the grill. If the worst happens you will be able to supply voltage to the car to allow the doors to open.

I honestly think getting in the car is the least of your flat battery problems. Chances are your alarm will be sounding on its backup battery and your immobiliser code could be screwed. Best way is to prevent it.

If all else fails get a new battery that way you should be able to leave it for months without a problem.

i get yer drift bob,i was only trying to find out the quickest and easist way to get in IF i had a problem in the future.i am told my battery is good but when i went to see another car b4 i bought this a guy said his had a new battery but e stil needed to jump it when i got there!!!!ps my alarm only sounds 10 times then turns off automatically due noise laws etc.
maybe i could leave my bonnet slightly open,but not noticeable(under cover anyway)and if i have problem then could attach leads to + and - under bonnet to get some power.....is this a possibility?thanks rob

Better still the AA and RAC just lift the front with a trolley jack and connect jump leads to the starter solenoid and chassis.

i noticed the + and - under bonnet,next to each other........is this definitely for jump starting as they seem very close together or is this for something else,i presume it is for jumping as battery in difficult position(remeber i aint got a bible yet and new to tvrs)rob

Or...for about £22 you can get a small solar charger which provides a trickle charge for the battery. Simply goes on the dash or seat and gives a few watts charge under normal conditions.

not under a cover it doesnt!!!!!!my car is outside and left under a full cover to keep our lovely weather at bay.!

I take it you've actually got one and tried it? Is the cover a solid ie see through plastic roof?

no i havent tried one as my cover is dark grey and blocks most light out!!thanks anyway,rob

the + and - connector under the bonnet does sound like the Leven Technolgy Starter that you can get to do as you say as the battery is in a tight spot.
Your owners Manual should help if your stuck getting in (and I dont mean throw it through the window).

I must admit, I love my house but can't afford the same with a garage, so have been thinking of downgrading to something with a double garage. However, the other half just cannot see the sense. ...I'll miss her......

surely downgrading wont giv u double garage as normally only the more expensive houses have double garages....i suggest your missus gets another job then upgrade!! or sell the house live in a caravan and buy another tvr!!??rob

It's too big, too old and needs too much renovation. However the house I quite like. Yeah a caravan with a double garage, WHY CAN'T SHE SEE THE SENSE?

i cant remember manual saying what to do but will check again....i thought it said take battery off,i cant see an easier option as cannot open bonnet to get to + and - when locked out !!i think i will just rip roof in a strop when it happens,thanks bananaman

Check your manual carefully again. There is another way, but DON'T post it on the net.
