Boot Issue

I would appreciate some advice on how to open the boot of my 97 Chimaera 500, please. She has had an intermittent fault for a while where repeatedly pressing the boot button would eventually activate the release, but it seems to have completely given up now. I would appreciate if someone could email me with any advice.

Also, any hints as to what the problem might be would be great, so I have some clue when I eventually start to poke around!

Sounds like classic solenoid failure, you could try getting a helper to press down on the boot lid whilst pushing the open button a few times.

The pressure on the boot lid often relieves the tension on the catch just enough so a flaky solenoid can just about pull open the lock.

if that doesn't work you will need to use the secret entry method, which nobody should post on an open forum but will do via pm

Mine does the opposite, it opens all on its own. After a drive I check it and often it is unlatched. At first I thought it was me catching the button with my knee, but this is not the case. Any help appreciated.

this one sounds like the bar or cable from the solenoid to the lock release may need adjustment i.e it's too tight at the moment and a small bump is causing it to operate the lock.

Top Tip: It's handy if you have a small helper who isn't claustrophobic or afraid of the dark, get them in the boot after making adjustments so if it wont open they can manually release the lock and you can try again without having to go through the secret entry palaver.
