Unfortunately the speakers that came in my Chim are ok, but not brilliant. They suffer from the "too much bass = distortion" basically because the cone can't travel far enough before hitting its limit, and making a 'chop chop' kind of sound on the drum beat.

So, I'm going to replace them. What sizes are the door speakers, and the parcel shelf speakers? I take it they prise away quite easily? Any maximum depth requirements?

I have the Bible (thanks Morgala), but its such a huge tome I haven't read through it yet. I did read the bit about driving the car, very informative!

6x9s in the rear - lovely. Fronts should just be a std replacement 12cm or something like that.

Before this gets too involved, have you got rear speakers already fitted?

The door spekears are 16cm and the rears 6 x 9 inch

recommend infinity speakers sound much better than the usual provided pioneers, what head unit do you have ?

Speakers are infinity in the doors, and some small pioneers in the rear. They're circular, I think I'll need to cut out an oval for 6x9 units?

Petrol tank is right behind there isn't it? Best to drill small holes and snip between them to cut the oval out?

The rear speakers are 5 inch Pioneers, TS-E1099, 50W 4ohm (10W nominal).

Best to stick full range units in the back, or just bass? Any recommendations? The units are 2 inches deep (should be able to use spacers if depth on the new units is a problem).

Actually, I'm wondering now if its worth bothering with the rears anyway, and just spending more money on the door speakers. Any bass problems, I'd just fit a sub somewhere.

This was the close of my upgrading questions... Now looking for a bit more bass and may put an amp on the rears. Can send you some pics if of interest??

I'm putting vents back on the rear speaker holes, 4 speakers in such a small place just leads to all kind of imaging problems, and lack of bass as well. All I need to do now is to upgrade the door speakers.
