Swirl tank removal

While waiting for my rad to get back from being recond & new hoses to arrive, thought i'd take the chance to clean up my tatty looking swirl tank (4.3). On removing the lower bolt that goes through the water pump housing, i was alarmed that the remains of the coolant in the engine or pump exited via the bolt hole !

Is this normal ??

I guess it may have happened before as both of the lower bolts were covered with silicon sealant. Any tips on re-assembly?

My last Griff (pre serp) also did this. Probably naughty but just popped the bolt back in. There must of been enough "gunk" around the hole as it never leaked.
