Not a bad idea as I only ever had a USB adaptor fitted in mine anyway.

Hi.
Im in need of a new cigarette lighter / power socket in the door of my car.
Mine has pushed through into the door....
Are they a TVR part or is there an alternative.?
Thanks...
I think you'll find it's a cigar lighter - the cigarette lighters were fitted to the Griffs Im in need of a new cigarette lighter / power socket in the door of my car.

Are you sure the socket hasn't just come undone and fallen in?
From memory there is a small nut wgich holds it all together and this can work loose and eventuallt come off, which leads to the situation you are in.
You will have to take the door card off to fit a new socket, so probably worth investigating before buying a replacement.
Also an ideal time to check/replace the usually below par wiring which has long since corroded due to damp/water ingress over the years.

I plan to put some USB sockets out of sight somewhere so decided to just fit a standard socket to the door. Plus the door has to be to most inconvenient place to plug in anything else.
Most of the aftermarket ones are plastic bodied and not very robust but I found one identical to the broken one I've taken out.

£6.29 can't be bad.

Hi there, hope you don't mind resurrecting this thread. I need to replace the cigarette/cigar lighter socket in the door of my 450. Was hoping I could get at it by taking the door speaker out but doesn't look like this is possible (admittedly I've not taken the speaker out yet, just judging by external appearance of door card). Can anyone advise the best way of removing and replacing the unit?
Cheers

With window up,speaker unscrew out remove screw behind Ashtray, then 3 nuts holding door card on, one in front of speaker, the other 2 , 1 close to the lighter mechanism, 2nd about 5cm further along going towards the back of door. Then winde window down as it's easier to get door card off. replace nuts with wing nuts if haven't done already, about 10mins work to get door card off.

If you're doing a usb one you might as well have a voltmeter version...

Be careful, I'm pretty sure the socket on th door is permanently live and dies not switch off with the ignition, so going down this route would give a permanent power drawhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302025267353
